After a few milder years at Ballarat, we were welcomed with a chilly one this year.
Pleasingly it stayed dry, but there was a distinct lack of warmth, although as was pointed out
a number of times during the day – “it could have been worse!”
Our numbers were down, perhaps our lowest for the season, but there were some terrific
results from the Magpie runners. A silver medal to Lucy Leutchford in the under 14 girl’s
5k was a great reward for a very consistent season. The boys from the same age group had
three finishers in the top ten with Ace Buck just missing a medal. Meaghan Gaunt (6th.
u/16), Jacob Barnes (6th u/20) and Matthew Newton (10th u/18) were others to finish
prominently.
The senior races saw our two newly crowned Club Champions again lead the Collingwood
charge in their respective events with Virginia Moloney just edging Bev Thomas out of 5th
place after a very tight tussle all the way. In the men’s event the gap was almost as close with
Jai Edmonds finishing two spots in front of Liam Delany. Again there had been very little
between them for almost the entire race. It was great to see Magnus Michelsson back in the
action after a bad run with injuries. Cadeyrn Douglas put in his best run with the Club while
Leo Arantes was another to be prominent. Tony Hally made it into Divvy 1, just beating
Leo home after yet another close duel over the 15k course.

Afternoon Tea: The Barnes crew were up to their usual tricks with the après race treats.
There was a terrific contribution from Helen Rowbottom. Thanks to all concerned – my
apologies to anyone I’ve missed.
Officials: Tony Williams and Gary McBroom were on the job with AV. They were cold
too!!
