Thema: Serienfertigung dentaler Versorgungen mittels Selective Laser Melting
Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is an outstanding technology to manufacture highly individualized
products and its ability to substitute conventional manufacturing technologies, e.g. casting, has
already been proven in some areas. Hence, the dental industry is especially interested in additive
manufacturing as every single dental restoration is unique. Consequently, Selective Laser Melting
of CoCr alloys is applied since more than a decade in series production of dental restorations. In
terms of dental applications, SLM can be considered as a mature technology: digital process
chains from customer to manufacturer are already state-of-the-art, as well as a high level of production safety and homogeneous part quality. However, surface quality is always an issue and
significant improvements in accuracy and surface quality will allow new indications to be manufactured by SLM. Nowadays further challenges arise, not only from a technical standpoint, but also
from a regulatory perspective. This talk will present the state-of-the-art, discuss current challenges
and future trends in dental additive manufacturing.
