Im Rahmen der foto-ethnografischen Ausstellungsreihe
„Europabilder“ des Museums Europäischer Kulturen –
Staatliche Museen zu Berlin wird mit der aktuellen Ausstellung der Lebensalltag älterer Menschen in Europa
beleuchtet. Personen unterschiedlicher Gesellschaftsschichten im Rentenalter aus dem urbanen sowie dem
ländlichen Raum stehen im Mittelpunkt des Projektes.
Mit Fotografien und Interviews werden die Lebensumstände, das Umfeld und der Alltag dokumentiert. Persönliche Lebensgeschichten lassen erkennen, wie aktiv die
„Ruheständler“ ihren Alltag gestalten, und wie engagiert
sie am gesellschaftlichen Leben teilhaben. In den Aufnahmen und Interviews treten Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten der verschiedenen Regionen Europas zutage.
Unabhängig davon, ob die Porträtierten aus Belgien,
Deutschland, Frankreich, Georgien, Griechenland, Großbritannien, Italien, Portugal, Österreich, Russland, Schweden, Slowenien oder Spanien stammen, die Fotografierten
haben viel zu erzählen, aber auch viel zu tun!

Gabriele Kostas sowie Interviews und Gespräche. Sie lädt
zum generationenübergreifenden Austausch ein.
As a further display within the series of photo-ethnographic exhibitions “Europabilder” (“Images of Europe”)
in the Museum Europäischer Kulturen – Staatliche
Museen zu Berlin (Museum of European Cultures –
National Museums in Berlin), the current exhibition
“Europe’s New Oldsters” illustrates the daily life of older
people in Europe today. The focal point here are persons
from various parts of society, from urban as well as rural
milieus. Their living conditions, ambiance and everyday life
are documented in photographs and interviews. A glimpse
into the personal background of each provides a view of
how the “retirees” structure their daily routines and how
they actively partake in social life. Thereby, differences as
well as commonalities in different regions in Europe be-
