Paul Raven PFA Education 07837 677204 January – May APPLICATIONS The Keepmoat Stadium: World class facilities for sport Based at the home of our local professional football club - Doncaster Rovers FC, learners are able to study at the state of the art classrooms and 3G astro-turf pitches boasted by the Keepmoat Stadium to offer both theory and practical sessions. The Keepmoat Stadium is a multi-activity venue situated within the prestigious Lakeside development - just south of Doncaster town centre. It is designed to provide a high-quality sporting environment with a community focus. Making full use of its versatility and accessibility, and with a spectacular 15,000 seated arena at its centre, the Keepmoat Stadium plays host to Doncaster Rovers and Belles Football Clubs, Doncaster Rugby League Football Club (The Dons) and the Athletic Club. Tuesday 26th August RESULTS DAY You and your parents/guardians will be invited to visit the Keepmoat to bring in your results so we can assess that you meet the minimum requirements September ENROLMENTS & COURSE START You will be sent a letter detailing your enrolment and start date for your course to start in September 2014. Course Description: This unique package of qualifications has been put together to give learners the chance to develop their employment pathways within professional sport. Students will have the chance to develop their coaching skills and knowledge through a curriculum built up of vocational qualifications. They will be able to develop an understanding of the different employment opportunities available at a professional football club and within the wider sports industry. Course Structure & Content: September 2014 to July 2015 BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure This level 1 qualification prepares learners for employment in the sport sector, or for progression to further study. Sports Leaders UK L1 Award in Sports Leadership This award provides the ideal starting point for learners who wish to develop their leadership skills. It is a practical qualification in which learners must demonstrate their ability to lead others in simple sports activities. City & Guilds Qualifications - Literacy and Numeracy The Functional Skills aim to equip learners with the skills and confidence to apply, combine and adapt their knowledge and skills to new situations in their life and work in a range of contexts and for various purposes. Entry Requirements: There are no formal entry requirements. Learners must not have previously gained a level 2 qualification. Career Prospects: Opportunities exist to enter careers including outdoor activities, sports coaching, sport and exercise science, leisure management and leisure operational services. There is also the option for learners to progress onto the BTEC Level 2 programme. Course Description: The course is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and understanding of a number of science and sport based units. The course allows for natural progression on to the BTEC L3 Sport and Exercise Science programme. Learners will also gain an understanding of the structure of the sport & leisure industry and gain the skills and knowledge for employment in sports development or coaching. Course Structure & Content: September 2014 to July 2015, full-time study. The programme consists of the following units: Fitness Testing and Training Practical Sport Anatomy and Physiology for Sport Injuries in Sport Planning and Leading Sport Nutrition Development of Personal Fitness Exercise and Fitness Instruction Effects of Exercise on the Body Entry requirements: Four GCSEs at grade D or above, including English Language and Maths. Level 1 qualification e.g. completion of BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure or Diploma in Progression. Progression: Upon successful completion, the BTEC Level 2 qualification will enable you to progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport, other national programmes or other vocational certificates. Course Description: The BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport is a vocational course which looks at different areas of employment within the sports sector. It offers a solid foundation in the various aspects of sport and enables you to develop essential skills required for gaining employment or progressing further in education. Progression: The BTEC Level 3 will give you the foundation for entry into university. Successful learners may also apply for a wide range of jobs within the sport & leisure industry such as: - health & lifestyle services, health & fitness, coaching, teaching, professional sport & performance, health promotion, community and sports development roles. Anyone studying full-time with Doncaster Rovers is able to apply to be part of our Academy or Development Squad, and they will be invited to attend trials in order to secure their position. Successful applicants will represent Doncaster Rovers at football on a regional and national level. Students receive expert tuition from fully qualified and highly-skilled sports coaches and will have the opportunity to take part in a number of competitions throughout the year, as well as taking part in the British College Sport league, regional fixtures and competing in the National Cup. British College Sport are the organisation at the forefront of the development of football in Further Education and selected students will have the opportunity to attend regional trials for the BCS representative side. Drfc dance Academy Do you have a passion for dance? Why not mix studying sport with our Dance Academy? The DRFC Dance Academy is a specialist extra-curricular academy run in conjunction with Cre8tive Dance, and runs alongside students’ core academic programmes enabling those with a passion for dance to develop their skills. Anyone studying full-time with Doncaster Rovers isable to apply to be part of our Academy. NCS (National Citizen Service) National Citizen Service (NCS) is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that helps you build skills for work and life, while you complete new challenges and meet new friends. You'll have a short time away from home and take on outdoor activities, before making your mark in your local community as you bring a team project to life. NCS is government backed and so it costs no more than £50, with financial support available if needed. Weeks Away With NCS you'll live with your team for two weeks (with a couple of days at home in between). While you're there you'll take part in a range of activities, learn loads about yourself and make new friends. At the end, you and your team head home to help out in your local community. NCS (National Citizen Service) When Can I Do NCS? Doncaster Rovers Foundation run NCS programmes during summer and autumn holidays, so it won't interfere with your studies. You can find out more about dates and available locations when you register your interest. What Does NCS Cost? A maximum contribution of £50 is required for the whole NCS programme. This goes towards the cost of equipment, activities, accommodation, meals and expenses. We are, however, committed to ensuring that the cost of the programme does not become a barrier to young people taking part. If you are concerned about the cost of the programme please speak to us as we may be able to arrange a reduced level of contribution for you. Graduation At the end of it all, get dressed up for the NCS graduation ceremony, where you'll be recognised for your achievements and even get a certificate signed by the Prime Minister. It doesn't stop there though! As a graduate you'll have access to loads of other opportunities and the chance to venture overseas with the International Citizen Service.
