RENEWAL OF YOUR RESIDENCE PERMIT
If your scholarship duration exceeds the period of validity of your residence permit card you have to
apply for a renewal before expiry at the respective department in Vienna (= MA 35). (Please note:
Only the residence permit card - “Aufenthaltsbewilligung” - can be renewed in Austria!) Applications
which are made once the residence title has expired are considered as first-time applications which
require additional documents. It is not possible to apply for a renewal sooner than 3 months before
the residence title expires. Extension fee: € 100.-- (as of March 2016)
A belated application which is filed once the residence title’s validity has expired is only accepted as
an application for extension if the applicant can show credibly that an unforeseen and inevitable
event has taken place which made a timely application for extension impossible. The event must not
be the applicant’s fault in any way. The application for extension must be filed within 2 weeks after
the obstacle is no longer in effect.
Visas (visa A, B, C, D) can not be renewed in Austria!
Please always make sure that your residence permit and your passport are valid.
If your residence permit expires during your scholarship period, the Regional Office Vienna can issue
a confirmation letter stating that you are a scholarship recipient, that you have health and accident
insurance (if concluded by the OeAD) and OeAD accommodation. If you live in private
accommodation you will have to present your lease contract. The application form for the residence
permit is available at: www.oead.at/scholars-entry-conditions (Please make sure you apply for the
right type of residence permit!)
Please contact the responsible district office of the “Municipal Department 35 (MA 35)” before the
expiration of your current residence permit, submit
 of registration the completed application form
(http://www.bmi.gv.at/cms/BMI_Niederlassung/formulare/start.aspx)
 the OeAD confirmation
 the photocopy of your lease contract
 an up-to-date photo (35 x 45mm)
 proof of your health and accident insurance
 your passport (original and photocopy) and
 your confirmation (original and photocopy) to the Municipal Districts Office.
