Erfolgreiche Wiederaufnahme von Richard Straussʼ »Salome« in der
Regie von Jürgen Flimm an der New Yorker Metropolitan Opera
Am Montag, dem 5. Dezember, einen Tag nach der Berliner »Manon Lescaut«-Premiere,
erlebte Jürgen Flimms »Salome«-Produktion von 2004 an der Metropolitan Opera New
York ihre erfolgreiche Wiederaufnahme unter der musikalischen Leitung von Johannes
Debus. Die Titelpartie verkörperte Patricia Racette, die für die erkrankte Catherine Naglestad
eingesprungen war. Das Publikum bedankte sich bei ihr mit Standing Ovations.
Die Financial Times berichtete: »The evening belonged, rightly, to Patricia Racette, who
portrayed the princess of Judea in place of Catherine Naglestad. Racette, 51, rose to the
challenge with gutsy abandon, singing with almost unflagging power and inflecting the text
with illuminating stresses.« Die New York Classical Review attestierte: »Patricia Racette had
a career night Monday, showing she still has an enormous amount to offer, both musically
and dramatically, as an artist. Racette has not had a success at the Met like this in several
years – maybe ever. Racette maintained formidable presence throughout and was riveting
from first to last.«
Bis in die kleinen Rollen sorgten die Sänger für eine gelungene Wiederaufnahme und das
gesamte Ensemble erntete großen Beifall: »Racette’s was not the only outstanding vocal
performance from Monday’s cast. Željko Lučić was in superb voice as John the Baptist,
bringing rich, dark color to the music as he seethed with disdain…Strutting spitefully as
Herod, Gerhard Siegel showed a forceful, aggressive tenor. Mikhail Petrenko brought a
strong, woody bass in his cameo as the First Nazarene, while Kang Wang made an impressive
debut, flashing a ringing tenor as the guard captain Narraboth.« (New York Classical Review).
Die Produktion ist bis zum 28. Dezember noch fünf Mal an der Metropolitan Opera zu
erleben.
