Identity and self-organization in the context of escape
What does it mean to arrive? How does escape affect identity? Which possibilities and perspectives do refugees have in Germany? These
topics will be discussed by representatives of civil society, journalists, politicians and refugees from Syria, the latter participated in the
CrossCulture Programme of the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa). The event finalizes their fellowship and offers the opportunity to
exchange experiences with journalists and activists and will as well provide a personal insight into their arrival in Germany.
Among the panelists are Medea Daghstani from Homs, project manager and current CCP fellow at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for
Freedom, Hussam Al Hassoun from Idlib, current CCP fellow at the Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) in Berlin, Loay Mudhoon, Editor-in-chief
of Qantara.de, and the journalist Kirstin Helberg. She worked from 2001 to 2008 as a correspondent in Syria for radio and TV programmes
such as ARD, ORF and SRF.
In cooperation with
For a world of freedom
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom is the foundation
for liberal politics in the Federal Republic of Germany. It aims to
promote the goal of making the principle of freedom valid for the
dignity of all people and in all areas of society, both in Germany
and abroad.
In our project countries, the support of human rights, rule of law
and democracy in more than 60 countries form the core of the
work of the regional offices in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Central
America; various forms of international dialogue and transatlantic
dialogue programme are used to promote these three values
around the world. The foundation supports local, regional, and national initiatives to advance the rights of minorities, the democratic
control of security forces and for strengthening international
human rights coalitions.
