Said plaintiff’s petition
was filed on the 12th day of

The nature of said suit
being substantially as follows, to wit:
Operational Facts
Plaintiff would show that
this lawsuit has become necessary as a result of personal
injuries received on or about
February 13, 2012. On that
date Plaintiff was traveling
on the 7500 block of South
Loop East Houston, Harris
County, Texas when suddenly and without warning
Defendant hit her from passenger side. As a result of
such, collision occurred and
Plaintiff suffered personal
injuries.
Negligence
At the time of the collision made the basis of this
suit Defendant was operating his vehicle in a negligent and careless manner
in the following respects
which, among others, may
be shown at the trial of this
cause:
a. In that Defendant
failed to keep a proper lookout;
b. In that Defendant
failed to timely make application of the brakes;
c. In that Defendant
failed to swerve or otherwise
maneuver his vehicle so as to
avoid the collision mad the
basis for this suit;
d. In that Defendant
failed to operate his vehicle
in a reasonable and prudent
manner;
e. In that Defendant
failed to control his speed;
and,
f. In that Defendant
violated Tex. Transp. Code
545.351 (Vernon 1988).
Each of these acts and/or
omissions, singularly or in
any combination with others, constituted negligence
which proximately caused
the occurrences made the
basis of this action and
Plaintiff’s injuries and damages.

As a Senate staffer, Thacker helped craft the disclosure rules,
which are designed to lay bare the industry practice of “detailing,” in which company sales people court doctors with everything from pens and mugs to lucrative speaking engagements.
Pharmaceutical companies spend an estimated $20.4 billion on
these activities each year and then track doctors’ prescribing patterns to gauge the return on their investment.
Using a federal website, patients will be able to search most
payments made to their health care provider, from $20 lunch
bills to hundreds of thousands of dollars in consulting fees.
Some of this information has already come to light, mainly due
to legal settlements that required drugmakers to disclose the
information.
Websites like Dollars for Docs, from the nonprofit journalism
group ProPublica, pool this data together and enable users to
search doctors by name to see what payments they’ve received.
The database covers 15 pharmaceutical companies, including
Pfizer Inc. and Johnsons & Johnson, and begins with payments
made in 2009.

Although some 85 percent of U.S. employees have their pay
deposited directly into a bank account, only 18 percent split
part of their income into a savings account, said Katie Bryan,
spokeswoman for America Saves, a campaign of the Consumer
Federation of America.
2. TACKLE CREDIT CARD DEBT: While many people
haven’t taken steps to save an emergency fund, some are increasingly taking on credit card debt.
Consumer credit card debt grew at an annualized rate of 12.3
percent in April, the fastest pace since November 2001, according to the Federal Reserve.
Carrying balances for months or years on end will just keep
you financially shackled and make it tougher to save. “We consider paying down debt a saving strategy,” said Bryan.
You’ll pay down your credit cards faster if you don’t hold back
any extra income as savings, but Bryan suggests paying off your
cards and building up savings at the same time.
Begin by making minimum payments on your cards until you
cobble together $500 or $1,000 for unforeseen expenses, such
as a car repair. Afterward, focus on paying down the card with
the highest interest first.

It’s difficult to see why we would even consider shutting down
the Ex-Im Bank. One argument that is put forth against extending the Bank’s charter is that it is not needed because the private
sector can handle export financing. This statement is simply
wrong, however, in that the only transactions the Bank handles
are those the private sector will not touch. Another argument
is that the Bank mainly benefits large companies, but this line
of reasoning breaks down in the face of the thousands of small
businesses which have been helped. More dollar support may
go to large companies, but that’s no surprise given that large
companies are exporting far more dollars in goods and services.
Charged words and phrases like “corporate welfare” and
“cronyism” have been used to describe why the Ex-Im Bank
should go away, but they are way off base. No money is given to
corporations; the Ex-Im Bank merely helps with some aspects
of financing transactions (and charges for it), smoothing the
way through often complex differences in financial structures,
currencies, and more.
I encourage you to go to www.exim.gov to see for yourself
what the Bank does. Also, look at the listing of companies which
have been helped. In Texas, firms are located in communities
across the state, not just the large population centers. I’ll bet
there is one near you. In just the first 50 of the listings, you’ll
see cities from Hereford in the Texas Panhandle to Edinburg in
the Rio Grande Valley and from Houston to El Paso. Industries
represented are diverse, and transaction sizes run the spectrum
from just less than $4,000 in exports supported to $650 million.
The US Export-Import Bank supports American jobs and
helps American businesses. It helps level the playing field in
international markets, improving competitiveness of US goods
and services. Moreover, it is not only free to taxpayers, but generates billions of dollars which can be used for other purposes.
You would think Congress would be well suited to handle a
“no-brainer,” but even that seems to be a problem.
