Sounds’ volume, acoustic colour and rhythmic deployment are investigated, chairs are shuffled, rulers produce melodies and the board is made to squeak. Romeo, the son of the German butcher, wants to steal their Turkish competitors’ secret recipe but, is caught by Zeliha, the daughter of the Turkish butcher. Despite the hostility between the two families, they fall in love; calamity takes its course. Fons Merkies The roles of Romeo and Zeliha are performed by German and Turkish singers. Are cars musical instruments? And, Is silence also music? A journey with John Cage, a pianist and an actor snatches the audience away to the fascinating world of the composer, John Cage. Companie Zonzo’s music theater is equally open and adventurous as John Cage’s approach to music. This piece was awarded the international YAMA Award in 2012 (The Young Audiences Music Awards) and the Yeah! Award in 2013.
