Keiko Hirose received her M.A. from Shizuoka University
in 2000. She has extensive experience teaching and living
abroad—Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Cambodia. She is a
regular guest on SBS radio, talking on intercultural
matters.

Kelly Quinn: Admiral Perry, Atomic Bombs and Ninja:
Japanese History from the View of an Outsider

Kelly Quinn grew up in Michigan, in the
United States. As an undergraduate, at the
University of Michigan, he majored in both
history and English. He has written a
number of English textbooks, including
Japanese History You Should Know, and is
currently an Associate Professor at Nagoya
Institute of Technology.

Nobuaki Hirose: “A Japanese Painter's Developing Style
—from Africa to Cambodia”

Nobuaki Hirose is a 1975 graduate of Waseda University.
He served for many years as a coordinator in JICA offices
in many countries—Kenya, Tanzania, and Cambodia.
When he has not been abroad, he has run a “juku” for
high school students in Shizuoka. His painting is his
“life work.”
