The Ritsumeikan Center for Asia Pacific Studies was established in July 1996 with the aim of
developing Asia Pacific Studies and becoming a global hub for the field. This year, RCAPS
marks its 20th anniversary. Founding RCAPS Director/Founding APU President Sakamoto
will speak at a symposium to mark the occasion. Panel discussants will reflect on the last 20
years and talk about the current challenges facing the field in these changing times. They
will address what Asia Pacific Studies is, why it is important, and how it is developing as an
academic field. We invite you to join us for the discussion of these issues at the symposium.
This symposium will be held in both Japanese and English.

立命館アジア太平洋研究センター（RCAPS）は1996年7月、アジア太平洋学を構築し、その分野で世界の
ハブとなることを目的として設立されました。今年、RCAPSは20周年を迎えます。今回、RCAPS設立時のセ
ンター長かつAPUの初代学長である坂本先生を招きシンポジウムを開催します。20年を経て、「アジア太平
洋とは何か？」「なぜアジア太平洋なのか？」「学問分野としてどう発展してきたか？」などの問いかけに、
時代状況の変容の中で現状の課題について、討論参加者と意見を交わします。皆さんも一緒に考えてみ
ませんか？
