A) ‘Modernisation of an Old Building? The Concertante and Orchestral Works by Georg
Friedrich Haas and Franck Bedrossian in the Final Concert'
Seminar with Rainer Nonnenmann (in German with English translation)
The large symphony orchestra is a venerable apparatus from the 19th century in which younger
composers are less and less interested. And yet this polyphonic collective of instruments with
the most varying timbres holds the potential for almost every conceivable disposition of sound in
time and space, be it within or beyond the genre traditions of orchestral work and solo concerto,
be it with a solo trombone as in the Haas or with electronics as in the Bedrossian.
Room B204
B) ‘The Hülcker Lab: The Internet as Compositional Material’
Participatory format by and with Neele Hülcker (in English)
Senate Room
C) ‘Modern Playing Techniques: Demonstration, Possibilities, Practice’
Workshop with Ellen Fallowfield (in English)
Seite
What is extended technique? Half a century after the surge of experimentation with new sounds
and unusual techniques in the 1960s, we will discuss the relevance of the terminology and the
techniques themselves to the spirit of new music making in 2016. We will consider how far
contemporary techniques have been assimilated into modern practice, review the resources
that provide performers and composers with information and discuss today’s modern
instrumental technique.
Small Auditorium (Kleine Aula)
D) ‘Music Production as Autonomous Work: A Practical Report’
Workshop with Luís Antunes Pena and Holger Stenschke (in English)
Luís Antunes Pena and Holger Stenschke have been working for several years realizing,
producing and recording various works. Their focuses are the connection between technology
and composition and a creative, fluid approach to an idea and its technical possibilities. Using
works like Fragments of Noise and Blood, Caffeine or Nomás as examples, their collaboration
will be illuminated from the perspective of composition for the CD medium or the concert hall.
