Presentación
Estructura de la Lengua. Gramática. Semántica. Léxico.
Programa Básico
Estudio de las características formales y de las funciones sintácticas de los elementos de la lengua inglesa.
Descripción de los constituyentes básicos del grupo nominal y su funcionamiento dentro de la oración desde una
perspectiva teórica y práctica.
Objetivos
This course is suitable for students who want to reach an upper-intermediate level of general English. Our main aim
will be to improve their knowledge of English grammar and their competence in the use of English.
At the end of this semester the students should be able to
1. Understand and make proper use of the making and working of the simple sentence in English.
2. Organise and create written specific texts in English at an intermediate/upper-intermediate level.
Programa de Teoría
1) MORFOSINTAXIS
a) The simple sentence. Basic Sentence Structures.
b) Determiners: Articles, possessives and demonstratives.
c) Pronouns and nouns.
d) Adjectives and adverbs.
e) Comparison, degree.
f) Prepositions.
g) Miscellaneous: numbers, contractions.
2) SEMÁNTICA: Nouns, Adjectives and idioms related to the following topics:
a) People: Clothes. Family relationships,
b) Buildings: Houses, flats and furniture.
c) Food, Restaurants and Hotels.
d) Letters and Telephone Calls
e) Records, radio and TV.
Programa Práctico
Evaluación
Two aspects will be had into consideration:
1. Exam, which will consist of 3 parts: grammar in use, vocabulary and writing.
2. Written essays and the specific assignment designed in each unit

1. Ejercicios escritos relacionados con los aspectos gramaticales tratados en el programa de teoría en la parte de
Morfosintáxis.
b) Ejercicios escritos relacionados con el campo semántico especificado en la parte de Semántica.
2) Lectura de la obra HANCOK, Penny. 1999. Just Good Friends. Cambridge: CUP.
Evaluación
