平成27年12月23日、中心市街地からアクセ
れた東陵公園内の市民温水プールが、大通東

Kitami Central Library
Kitami Citizens’Heated Pool
On December 23, 2015, the library was relocated
to a new building on the south side of JR Kitami
Station easily accessible from the downtown area.
Its collection of 300,000 books is the largest in the
subprefecture, and includes dictionaries that are
difficult for individuals to purchase and regional
materials that are not commercially available. An
audiovisual section, literature museum section
displaying the precious materials of famous poet
Mokichi Saito, nursing rooms and other facilities
have been added, and various new services such
as electronic books are also available.
The citizens’heated pool in Toryo Park, which
had been a popular spot for locals for 42 years,
was relocated to Odori Higashi 8-chome and
reopened on April 1, 2015.
It has a 25-m depth-adjustable pool for
competitive swimming authorized by the Japan
Swimming Federation, multi-purpose pool, bubble
pool, sauna room, training room and community
room. The entire pool can be viewed from the
glass-walled lobby.

北見市では市民の高いスポーツ熱のもと、スポーツ施設の整備を図り、誰もが
気軽にスポーツを楽しめるスポーツ振興に取り組んでいます。
1998 年の長野冬季オリンピックで正式種目に採用されたカーリングでは、常呂
自治区出身の選手が活躍しているほか、
「スポーツ合宿の里きたみ」として、夏の
ラグビーから冬のスキーまで、例年多くの社会人・学生チームが合宿に訪れます。
また、芸術文化面においては、将来、地域文化の担い手となる子どもたちのた
めに、幼少のころから多種多様な芸術文化に親しめる機会の充実を図り、地域に
おける身近な芸術文化活動の推進を行っています。

Kitami has sports facilities to allow sports-loving citizens to enjoy sports easily.
Players from the Tokoro district are among the best in the country in curling, which became an official event in the Nagano Winter Olympics
in 1998. Kitami is also known as the home for training camps, with adult and student teams in sports from rugby in summer to skiing in winter,
staying in the city for training.
In the art and culture fields, measures are taken to provide various opportunities for children, who will be leaders of regional culture in the
future, to appreciate art and culture and promote art and culture activities in local communities.
