Press kit 2014 EDITORIAL «Thanks to social networks, we know that motorcycle endurance racing attracts many fans. Every day, more than 400 of them check in to follow our story, results and news about GMT94, the Michelin Yamaha R1 and its riders David Checa, Kenny Foray, Mathieu Gines and Lucas Mahias. 50% of our followers are less than 24 years old. It is a sign that all generations are invol- ved. It is a sign that the youth is not lagging behind. It is a sign that our sport makes people dream. This number represents his commitment to the Val de Marne department, the city of Ivry-sur-Seine and his involvement in social activism. One of the aims of the 94 team is to promote the role of social shield represented by the Departmental Council of Val de Marne. Former 250cc GP world champion Christian Sarron made use of our action as an inspiration to sponsor another project (led by Yannick Lucot) in Viltais, dedicated to the training of young riders and mechanics. The 94 team will be directly involved in hosting the young team in Spain and possibly even in Qatar. It could be a way to show that everyone can reach their dream. Lycée Jacques Brel in Choisy-le-Roi, Collège Jean Perrin in Kremlin-Bicêtre, Collège Rosa Parks and Lycée Professionnel Val de Bièvre in Gentilly, Collège Molière or Lycée Fernand Léger in Ivry-sur-Seine are some of the schools that Christophe Guyot has visited on numerous occasions. Road safety is the focus of those visits, but they always lead to internships in the GMT94 workshop for young people from Val de Marne. Engineering schools from Val de Marne also call on GMT94 to open internships to students from ESTACA, IPSA or EPITA. Every year, GMT94 requests the help of the FFM to organise activities geared towards the younger generation. Eric Dieudonné, in charge of the educational programs in the Ile-de-France region and his team supply minibikes for kids aged between 6 and 14 during the Solidarity Days celebration in Ivry-sur-Seine. In 1998 and 1999, two of the GMT94 mechanics were hired through a youth employment program implemented in 1997 by the Val de Marne Departmental Council. 15 years later, their uninterrupted employment within the team shows that these jobs could last in the long run well beyond the five-year sponsored period. In 2014, young mechanic Nicolas Lefebvre joined the team as our sixth full-time member. Over 40 volunteers also work for GMT 94 at the races, during the “Thrill Days” held at circuit Carole, or during riding-school days hosted by Christophe Guyot. Many contribute to the educational activities of GMT94, including Jude Asaph (Vincennes), Jean Pierre Leblanc or Jean Pascal Didier (Ivry) who always make themselves available when Christophe Guyot’s schedule does not allow him to visit a school, trade show or racetrack. Numerous companies from the Val de Marnes department are partners under the “94” banner. Some of them have been with us since the beginning: Grenier printing house (Gentilly) prints our documents, Quorum (L’Hay les Roses) handles our graphic design needs and Fortuné (St Maur) makes our upholstery. “We are involved in motorcycle racing to win and to demonstrate the superiority of our tyres, which is only possible by working in close partnerships with high-level teams such as GMT94.” Nicolas Goubert (Deputy Director, Racing Division - Technical Director, Racing Division) Competition is part of Michelin’s genetic makeup and philosophy. It’s also the expression of a shared passion within the company. Michelin is involved in the World Endurance Championship because it is opened to multiple tyre manufacturers and allows direct comparison with our competitors. INSIDE RACING WITH YAMAHA MOTOR FRANCE www.yamaha-motor-france.com OPENING THE RACETRACKS Yamaha Motor France is also very committed to making racetracks accessible to all. Tracks are rented for that purpose with GMT94. David Checa, Kenny Foray, Mathieu Gines, Lucas Mahias and Christophe Guyot organize lapping sessions for motorcycle riders and give two-up rides on the race bikes. Everyone can obviously benefit from their riding advice. Team mechanics are also attending to share their setup experience. Yamaha Motor France supports numerous organizations dedicated to track riding, but also off-road riding. THE WORLD-CLASS RACING EXPERIENCE Prior to the start of the Bol d’Or and the French World Superbike round, Yamaha Motor France gives the opportunity to about a hundred R1, R6 and Fazer owners to follow Christophe Guyot around the Magny-Cours circuit. YMF is also present at the French Grand Prix to give opportunities to take laps around the Bugatti circuit. DISPLAYING THE 94 BIKE Yamaha grandstands are available at events such as the French Grand Prix and the Bercy Supercross. The GMT94 Yamaha R1 is displayed at various shows and Yamaha dealerships throughout the year. In 2014, the GMT94 bike will be displayed for more than 150 days all over France. Those will represent many opportunities to meet the Yamaha France GMT94 Yamalube Team and discover the racing world from within. Road Show Network These are very complete courses at the race track. They are made up of multiple workshops. 50 bikes are available for the participants. These days greet professionals from the Yamaha Motor France network and enable the participants to acquire some experience to share with every motorcyclist. GMT94: BEYOND COMPETITION Solidarity Days Every year since its inception, upon the initiative of the Departmental Council of Val-de-Marne, the GMT94, together with numerous other associations, take part in the preparation and animation of the special day in favor of the Ivry citizens in difficulty that takes place before the Christmas period. Work with high schools Hosting trainees, working in the classroom, assisting students orientation, welcoming young people visiting bike shows, fairs or exhibitions: their activities are very varied. Partnership with Mutuelle des Motards insurance company For Christophe Guyot, former rider then manager of GMT94, “being an active participant in what we’re associated with is the best way to move things forward”. With Patrick Jacquot, Chairman of the Mutuelle des Motards, they have submitted a file called «Open the circuits». The FFM has taken it over to offer bikers many Open Days. The Mutuelle des Motards and the GMT94 will keep on working in this direction in 2014 to extend practice to everybody. «Thrill» Days Since its creation, the GMT94 has elaborated a complete organization to give an ever wider public the opportunity to experience some rare moments. These activities are entirely prepared by the racing team, the team manager, the mechanics, the riders as well as the volunteers. One of the greatest moments remains the contact between the motorsports fans who are offered a unique opportunity to meet the stakeholders of racing. For each of the participants, the two-up ride sessions may last just a few minutes, but the whole lot of them have confessed it is a moment they’ll never forget. The GMT Club Cyclo Moto track sponsorship The club is managed by volunteers and offers bikers from all over France the chance to get closer to the racing world, thanks to a number of original activities and initiatives: access and privileged welcome at Circuit Carole, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Bol d’Or, pit garage visits, result reports as well as the life of the team after every race, etc. Within the framework of the partnership with GEMA (a group of mutual insurances), Christophe Guyot sponsors the «Cyclo Moto» track and takes part in the GEMA-CRS partnership that associates the «mutualist» approach of road riding, training and prevention. GMT94’s PARTICIPATION Christophe Guyot, Kenny Foray, David Checa, Mathieu Gines and Lucas Mahias attend the “Open Mutuelle Des Motards” days. GMT94 and Mutuelle des Motards are working in close collaboration to elaborate the teaching program, safety questions and racetrack rentals. MUTUELLE DES MOTARDS - COMMITTED TO GMT94 « Mutuelle des Motards has been supporting GMT94 since their competition debut because the two organizations have several things in common, including a unique position in the motorcycle world. A shared commitment to the promotion of motorcycle riders’ interests and the desire to spread that passion are the cement of a partnership built on common values.» The historic partnership between Mutuelle des Motards and GMT94 was developed in both the competitive and the training areas. Both partners are deeply involved in a real road safety policy, which led to the birth of the “Open the Racetracks” project. These track days are aimed at catching the authorities’ attention and highlighting on safety issues affecting every road user, and not only motorcycle enthusiasts. That is why GMT94 and Mutuelle des Motards are spreading and implementing this project together. Those events called “Racetrack Open Days” by the FFM are renamed as “Open Mutuelle Des Motards” when organized by the latter. Year after year, the «Open Mutuelle des Mo- tards» days enable the development of new ideas and innovations, and still more entertainment for motorcycle riders. www.openmutuelledesmotards.fr Thursday 3 April - Pôle Mécanique d’Alès (30) Tuesday 6 May - Haute Saintonge (17) Thursday 22 or Friday 23 May - Fontenay le Comte (85) Friday 6 June - Issoire (63) Tuesday 17 June - Carole (93) Tuesday 24 June - Croix en Ternois (62) Saturday 5 July - Magny-Cours (58) Wednesday 16 July - Pôle Mécanique d’Alès (30) Women Sunday 24 August - La Ferté Gaucher (77) Monday 25 August - La Ferté Gaucher (77) Women Sunday 7 September - Chambley (54) Thursday 25 September - Fontenay le Comte (85) Saturday 11 October - Albi (81) Wednesday 15 October - Carole (93) GEMA ‘GMT94 IS THE HONORARY SPONSOR OF THE CRS/GEMA PRÉVENTION ROAD SAFETY EDUCATION TRACK SINCE 2001.’ PrEvention AND THE GMT94 The GEMA insurance companies cover more than half of the personal vehicles in France.
