Our front page photo this issue is very
different from past newsletters. Instead
of featuring our products and services,
we chose a picture showing our heart
and soul.
The Callanan employees pictured
represent one of four groups who gave
back to our community during a special
week in October.
Inspired by national Make a Difference
Day, these employees — led by April Clas,
Payroll and Benefits Manager and Employee
Assistance Program Coordinator — created
our very own Make A Difference Week and
volunteered their time at four not-for-profit
organizations.
Some served healthy meals to people who
might otherwise have gone without. Others
helped build a home for a family in need,
and stocked the shelves of a food pantry
with the holidays fast approaching. Still
others spent time helping parents whose
children are facing the battle of their lives
before they have even had a chance to live.
We believe that being in business brings
with it a responsibility to be part of your

community, and Callanan is pleased
to financially support a large number
of not-for-profit causes. But we also
understand that true community
involvement means more than just
writing a check. It means being
there, with a helping hand and a
reassuring smile.
I am proud of our employees for
their volunteerism, not only in
October, but throughout the year.
They truly Make a Difference
every day.

Make A Difference Week
Four groups of Callanan employees set out to make a difference in our regional
community during one special week in October — volunteering their time to
help out at four important not-for-profit organizations.
CAPITAL CITY RESCUE MISSION
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE
Chicken and rice were on the menu — and smiles of
appreciation were all over the faces — at the Capital City
Rescue Mission in Albany on Monday evening, Oct. 20.
Employees from Callanan volunteered their time to serve
dinner to more than 120 grateful guests at the Mission,
which provides three complimentary meals a day, as well
as emergency shelter to those in need.
Over the past 32 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities of
the Capital Region has provided a home away from home
for the families of seriously ill children receiving treatment
at nearby hospitals. Team Callanan brightened the morning
for some of these well-deserving families on Tuesday, Oct. 21,
arriving bright and early at the Ronald McDonald House in
Albany to prepare a bountiful breakfast of pancakes, eggs,
sausage, bacon, hash browns, muffins and banana bread.
ST. PATRICK’S FOOD PANTRY
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
CAPITAL DISTRICT
More than 100 families, totaling approximately 400 people,
turn to the food pantry at the Church of St. Patrick in Ravena
in any given month. Callanan employees gave of their time at
the church on Thursday, Oct. 23, stocking shelves in advance
of the busy holiday season, when the Pantry provides
breakfast and dinner baskets for both Thanksgiving and
Christmas. Diane Hoffman (seated), an employee at
Callanan’s South Bethlehem facility, is the longtime volunteer
director of the Pantry. “It’s very rewarding,” she says.
IN THE PHOTOS
A new neighborhood of safe, healthy homes is coming to life
in Troy, thanks to Habitat for Humanity Capital District. On
Saturday, Oct. 25,
Team Callanan was
happy to lend a hand.
And a hammer.
And a shovel.
Callanan employees
volunteered their
time to help with the
construction of the
13-home Fox Hollow
neighborhood.
Through donations
of time, money and
materials — including the sweat equity of the homes’ future
owners — Habitat Homes are sold to eligible families at no profit
and financed with zero-interest mortgages.

A Project of Pride
Callanan Supporting Distributor’s
Major Upstate Investment
The country’s largest wholesale
plumbing distributor is making a major
investment in Upstate New York — and
Callanan Industries is one of the key
suppliers in the construction pipeline.
All four of Callanan’s divisions
are playing a role in the building of
Ferguson Enterprises’ new 460,000
square foot distribution center in
Coxsackie (Greene County).
Our Clemente Latham Concrete
division is providing 12,000 yards of
ready-mix for the building’s footings,
foundation and exterior concrete
surfaces, such as truck pads and ramps.
Our Aggregate division is providing
75,000 tons of material for sub-base
and drainage purposes, and also
jumped in to supply 25,000 tons of fill
material over a one-week period in
September when another fill supplier
encountered supply chain challenges.
Most recently, our Hot Mix Asphalt and
Construction Services divisions were
awarded the contract for construction
of the facility’s parking lot.
“This is a great project for Upstate
New York and a great opportunity
for Callanan,” said Sheila Barkevich,
Sr. Vice President of Sales. “Ferguson
is a quality-conscious business
that is growing and investing,
and we’re proud to be associated
with them.”
Callanan Industries and our
Clemente Latham Concrete division
are proud to have donated 36 yards
of ready-mix for the construction
of new sidewalks around the
newly restored Vietnam Veterans
Memorial in Albany’s Lafayette
Park. The handsome restoration
was spearheaded by the Tri-County
Council of Vietnam Era Veterans.
New Batch Plant
Open in Altamont
Callanan Industries is now
operating a five-ton hot mix asphalt
batch plant in Altamont through
a lease agreement with Carver
Companies. Plant Operator Chris
Caldwell and Loader Operator
Jason Mikas have joined the
Callanan team.
Clemente Helping Build New West Point Barracks
More than 600 U.S. Army Cadets
will have an impressive new home
on the campus of the U.S. Military
Academy at West Point in 2016.
Callanan Industries is proud to be
part of the construction team.
Drivers from our Clemente
Latham Concrete division will
be pouring 20,000 yards of highstrength concrete for the footings,
foundation and superstructure of a
striking six-story, 287,000-squarefoot barracks that is now under
construction.
Like other structures on the revered
200-year-old campus, the new barracks
will be constructed from granite, using the
military gothic revival architecture style.
The specifications for the job called for
Callanan to provide concrete of 5,000 and
6,000 Pounds Per Square Inch (PSI)
as compared to 4,000 PSI for typical
commercial construction.
This is the second major West Point
project for Clemente in the past year,
as we recently completed work on
the Academy’s new Science building.
“We are very proud to have the
opportunity to supply such a historic
institution and be part of a legacy that
will continue to serve our country
with the best and brightest military
leaders,” said Clemente Vice President
Steve Benton. “We salute our military and
veterans, and thank them for their service
and sacrifices.”
