Patient cannot walk, or requires help of two or more
people.

Dependent-level 2
Patient requires firm continuous support from one
person who helps carrying weight and with balance.
Abhängig - Stufe 2
Patient benötigt sichere, ständige Unterstützung von
einer Person, die hilft das Gewicht zu tragen und das
Gleichgewicht zu halten.
Dependent-level 1
Patient needs continuous or intermittent support of
one person to help with balance or co-ordination.
Abhängig - Stufe 1
Patient benötigt ständige oder intermittierende
Unterstützung einer Person für Gleichgewicht oder
Koordination.
Dependent-supervision
Patient requires verbal supervision or stand-by help
from one person without physical contact.
Abhängig – Aufsicht
Patient benötigt verbale Anleitung oder stand-by Hilfe
einer Person ohne physischen Kontakt.
Independent-on level ground
Patient can walk independently on level ground, but
requires help on stairs, slopes or uneven surfaces.
Unabhängig - auf ebenen Boden Patient kann unabhängig auf ebenen Boden gehen,
benötigt aber Hilfe bei Treppen, Hängen oder
unebenen Oberflächen.

Comment:
This categorization is designed to give detail on the physical support needed by patients who
are walking, particularly in physiotherapy department. Therefore it is most useful in active
rehabilitation rather than as measure of actual disability. Validity and reliability established;
simple to use and sensitive to change during the transition from being immobile to walking.
