Since there already was an 8 x 57 IR, the next logical step was to also create a cartridge with rim for break-open rifles in addition to the 8 x 57 IS with the stronger 8 mm bullets. Well, the 8 x 57 IRS is the rimmed version of the rimless 8 x 57 IS – both were introduced in 1905. GECO is offering three loads with the 185 gr GECO Softpoint bullet, with the 196 gr GECO Plus and with the 139 gr lead-free GECO ZERO. GECO Plus The GECO Plus is a precise projectile designed using the latest technology. The GECO bonding technique is characterised by the extremely strong solder joint between the projectile core and jacket. As a result of this the GECO Plus mushrooms with minimum fragmentation and has excellent penetration even in heavy game or if striking bone. The breaking points visible on the jacket control the deformation and ensure the bullets effectiveness.
