TOPICS
More stringent emission legislation and an increasing public interest for
environmentally friendly propulsion concepts as well as a diversification of
applied fuels will be dominating the research and development activities of
engine manufacturers and their suppliers for the next years.
With the introduction of IMO TIER III emission limits for marine diesel engines
the nitrous gases have to be reduced drastically. At the same time substantial
regulations on the fuel sector have to be considered. To meet these challenges
new technological concepts such as the Dual-Fuel technology, exhaust gas
recirculation, 2-stage turbo charging, high pressure injection, exhaust gas after
treatment measures and complex control strategies are required.
For the 4th time about 200 experts in the field of research, development,
operation and legislation are getting together in the hanseatic city to
discuss current and future challenges from different perspectives. Moreover,
innovations and newest technologies for large engines are discussed in the
context of technological progress and environmental friendliness.
Organizer of the event is the Institute of Piston Machines and Internal
Combustion Engines of the University of Rostock under the guidance of
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Horst Harndorf. In 21 scientific presentations selected national
and international speakers are presenting the newest scientific results and
innovative developments. A simultaneous translation in German and English will
be provided.
Major topics of the symposium are:
• Legislative and economic circumstances
• Concepts and strategies for fulfilment of future demands
• Gas- and Dual-Fuel engines
• Fuel injection and mixture formation
• Turbocharging and waste heat recovery
• Exhaust gas after treatment systems
• Fundamental research
Participants:
• Engine and component manufacturers
• Shipping companies, ship yards and suppliers
• Power plant operators
• Researchers from universities and independent institutes
• Oil industry
• Legislation representatives
