+といいですね - Nihongo Ganbaru

オ
いいですね。
(short, present) と
いいんですが。
I hope … (for
you/them)
I hope … (for
myself)
-Short present tense form of +といいですね
-Used to say that you hope for something nice to happen
-When +といいですね is used, you are wishing good luck to
somebody other than you
ex. いい大学に行くといいですね。
I hope you go to a good college.
雪が降らないといいですね。
I hope it doesn’t snow.
-To use this for your own good, you use といいんですが
-This shows that the speaker’s attitude is more tentative and
modest
ex. 授業があるないといいんですが。
I am hoping that there is no class.
二時にアルバイトを働くといいんですが。
I hope I can work at my part-time job at two o’clock.
-Note that these forms indicate that you are hoping that
something nice happens. These cannot be used in cases
where you HOPE to do something nice, which is under your
control. If this case arises, you can turn the verb into the
potential form.
ex. 仕事に行けるといいんですが。
I am hoping to go to work.
vs.
仕事に行くといいんですが。
I am hoping that I can go to work.
