Le salon de Kimura
In his house, he hosted regular meetings of various
experts in different fields. Painters like Yosa Buson,
Uragami Gyokudô, and Maruyama Ôkyô ; men of letters
like Ueda Akinari and Motoori Norinaga ; thinkers like
Minagawa Kien ; rangaku scholars like Otsuki Gentaku and
Shiba Kôkan. And naturalists like Ono Ranzan and Odaka
Motoyasu — the best minds of the period — regularly
attended discussions and intellectual convivial events in
his salon. Kenkadô was the engine of a small-scale
Japanese « Republic of Letters ». (The Knowledge of

Les trois traductions selon Sugita
• - la « traduction par transposition » ou honyaku 翻訳
où l’on fait correspondre à un terme, son exact
équivalent dans la langue cible.
• - le giyaku 義訳 ou la « traduction par le sens »,
consistant à fabriquer un terme nouveau, par
combinaison de notions présentes dans le mot
d’origine, de façon à recréer le sens du terme original.
• - le chokuyaku 直訳, la traduction « immédiate »,
consistant en fait à une transcription phonétique du
terme original. Cas où le terme n’a aucun équivalent
dans la langue japonaise et où les traducteurs ont des
difficultés à se le représenter.

• 訳に三等あり。
• 一に曰く翻訳、二に曰く義訳、三に曰く直訳。
• 和蘭呼びてベンデレンと曰ふ者は、則ち骨なり、
則ち訳して骨と曰ふが如きは、翻訳これなり。
• また、呼びてカラカベンと曰ふ者、骨にして軟ら
かなる者を謂ふなり。カラカなる者は鼠の器を噛
む音の如く然るを謂ふなり。蓋し義を脆軟ぜいなん
に取る、ベンなる者はベンデレンの略語なり、則
ち訳して軟骨と曰ふが如きは、義訳これなり。
• また、呼びてキリイルと曰ふ者、語の当つべきな
く、義の解すべきなくは、則ち訳してキリイルと
曰ふが如きは、直訳これなり。
