Immunology
Adaptive Immunity
Basics and Clinical Manifestations
Munich, 17-18 June 2016
Maritim Hotel Munich
GREETING
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen!
We are pleased to welcome you to the Immunology
Summer School 2016 in Munich. Under the scientific
leadership of Dr. Fabian Hauck, Munich, and Prof. Dr.
Horst von Bernuth, Berlin, you will have lectures on
the latest topics and interesting case studies from
the field of immunology.
We hope you will enjoy an informative conference.
Sincerely,
Dear Colleagues!
In everyday clinical life as well as in scientific fundamentals paediatric immunology is closely related to
other sub-specialities within paediatric and general
medicine. The boundaries to rheumatology, infectious disease, stem cell transplantation, and allergy
are often only didactical in nature. New genetic methods have accelerated our knowledge gain over the
past few years so that about 300 molecularly defined
primary immunodeficiencies are now known. Stem
cell transplantation protocols adapted for immunodeficiencies and molecular-based immune modulations have broadened the spectrum of available therapeutic options.
These developments make it more and more difficult
to find answers to apparently easy questions of daily
clinical routine. Is it a severe combined immunodeficiency or a normal variable immunodeficiency? Will
a classical Sanger sequencing technique be sufficient
or should Next Generation Sequencing be used? Does
the patient suffer from superinfected severe eczema
with fever or is an immunodeficiency with immune
dysregulation the cause of the disease? Are lymphadenopathy and splenomegaly related to infection or
does the patient suffer from a benign lymphoproliferation or even a malign lymphoma? Is an allogenic
haematopoietic stem cell transplantation required
or would immunoglobulin substitution be sufficient?
How can the patient be conditioned for stem cell
transplantation and which donor or stem cell source
would be the best choice?
Questions like these will be discussed during the
CSL Behring Summer School for Paediatric Immunology. Main lectures followed by case studies will
provide immunological and practical information
that will support you in decision making in everyday
clinical life. Our program is suitable for the general
practitioner or paediatrician as well as for the doctor-in-training who wants to specialize in the field of
immunology, rheumatology, allergy-related disease,
or stem cell transplantation.
We hope that this knowledge exchange and communication across the borders of medical specialities
will lead to new insights that help to improve the
health status of our patients. We are looking forward
to welcoming you in Munich on 17-18 June 2016.
