Kursinhalt ist die Arbeit an Werken für Bläser aus dem 20. und 21. Jahrhundert vom
Solo, Duo (gerne auch mit Klavier), Trio (z.B. Trio d'anches) bis zum Bläserquintett
(oder Klavierquintett mit Bläsern).
Der Kurs ist an Jugendliche, Studierende, interessierte Laien und Profis zur Weiterbildung ohne Altersbegrenzung adressiert.
Willkommen sind auch Teilnehmer, die sich auf das Studium, auf Probespiele oder
Wettbewerbe vorbereiten möchten.

Der 4. John-Cage-Preis wird vergeben an teilnehmende Solisten oder Trios nach
seinem/ihrem Auftritt am 28. August 2016. Die Auswahl dieser Spieler und des Repertoires findet während des Kurses statt. Alle Teilnehmer müssen mindestens ein
Werk aufführen. Der Preis ist mit 3000 EUR dotiert.
Seit 2001 wird das längste Musikstück der Welt (639Jahre) in Halberstadt aufgeführt. Es ist eine Interpretation von Organ2/ASLSP – As SLow aS Possible [So langsam wie möglich] – des experimentellen amerikanischen Komponisten John Cage.

The fourth John Cage Award will be given to a participating soloist or trio after
performing in the competition recital on August 28th, 2016. The selection of these
performers will be made during the master course. All participants have to perform
at least one piece. The price winner(s) will receive the amount of 3000 EUR.

Since 2001 the world’s longest piece of music (639 years!) is being performed in Halberstadt. It is an interpretation of Organ2/ASLSP – As SLow aS Possible – of the experimental American composer John Cage. Around the clock, 365 days per year,
sounds are resonating in the powerful atmosphere of the pertially ruined medieval
Buchardi Church. It has now become a place of great attraction and is steeped in the
openness associated with Cage.

Content of the course is work on pieces of music for wind instruments from the
20th and 21th centuries - for solo instrument, duets (also with piano), trios (for example Trio d'anches) up to wind quartets (or piano quartet with wind instruments).
The course is for young musicians, for university or conservatory students of
music, for interested amateurs and for professional musicians as advanced training. There is no age limit. Participants who are preparing for advanced studies, for
admission auditions or for competitions are also welcome. Please contact Christian Hommel directly by email if you have any questions concerning repertoire.

c h r is tia n h o mmel studierte in Freiburg Oboe bei Heinz Holliger und Klavier bei James Avery. Er
war Preisträger bei den Internationalen Musikwettbewerben in Genf und Triest und erhielt u.a. den Preis
des Deutschen Musikrates und den Förderpreis der Mozart-Gesellschaft Wiesbaden.
Zahlreiche Konzerte als Solist, Kammermusiker und Dirigent führen Christian Hommel durch Europa, Amerika und Asien. Christian Hommel arbeitet regelmäßig mit der Camerata Salzburg, der Deutschen Kammerphilharmonie, dem Chamber Orchestra of Europe und dem Kölner Kammerorchester zusammen und ist seit
2008 Mitglied des Ensemble Modern, Frankfurt.
J o h a nnes s c h Wa r Z, seit 2003 Mitglied des Ensemble Modern, wirkte bei verschiedensten CDProduktionen solistisch oder im Ensemble mit Uraufführungen, klassischer und barocker Musik, aber auch
Tangos oder Pop- und Heavy-Metal-Musik mit. Als Musikpädagoge unterrichtete er Kammermusik und Fagott an den Hochschulen in Essen und Köln und ist Dozent der Internationalen Ensemble Modern Akademie.
Er gibt Workshops für Fagott, Rohrbau und Kammermusik. Seit 2004 ist er für die vom Land Hessen geförderten Response-Projekte an Frankfurter Schulen sowie an den von der Altana Kulturstiftung geförderten
Education-Projekten aktiv gestalterisch tätig und seit 2009 maßgeblich für die Organisation des Meisterkurses der IEMA bei den Klangspuren Schwaz verantwortlich. www.johannes-schwarz.com
Zu ib h a u s ma nns wichtigsten Lehrern und Inspiratoren gehören, neben dem Pianisten Menahem
Pressler und dem Komponisten György Kurtág, seine Kammermusikpartner: Alexander Lonquich, Denes
Varjon, Frank Gutschmidt, Benjamin Schmid, Peter Bruns, Clemens Hagen, der Jazzpianist Michael Wollny
und Streichquartette wie das: Hagen-, Casals-, Vogler,- Pellegrini-, Bennewitz,- und Auryn-Quartett.
Er war Soloklarinettist des Rundfunksinfonieorchesters Leipzig und der Staatskapelle Berlin. Er tritt mit
bedeutenden Orchestern, u.a. mit dem Minnesota Symphony Orchestra und der Kammerphilharmonie Bremen auf. Er erhielt den Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik für die Klarinettensonaten von Max Reger

Rund um die Uhr, 365 Tage pro Jahr klingt es in der kraftvollen Atmosphäre der
teilweise zerstörten mittelalterlichen Buchardi Kirche. Sie wurde zu einem großen
Anziehungspunkt ganz im Sinne der Offenheit John Cages.

America und Asia with numerous concerts as soloist, chamber music performer and conductor. Christian

the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Kölner Kammerorchester and since 2008 he is member of the Ensemble Modern, Frankfurt. He was co-founder and conductor of the Ensemble Aventure for contemporary
music and regularly conducts performances with the Ensemble des Ateliers für Neue Musik in the Academy
of Arts in Bremen.
J o h a nne s s c h Wa r Z , since 2003 a member of the Ensemble Modern, has participated in highly
varied CD productions, both as soloist and as ensemble player, featuring world-premiers, classical and
baroque music, but also tangos as well as pop- and heavy-metal music. As a music pedagogue he has
taught chamber music and bassoon in the Music Academies of Essen and Cologne and he is an instructor in
the International Ensemble Modern Academy. He offers workshops für bassoon, (Rohrbau) instrument construction ?? and chamber music. Since 2004, he has been active in giving form to state-subsidized Response-Projects in Frankfurter schools as well as working with education projects funded by the Altana
