Bulletin Nr. 3 Monday - May 16, 2016 After 81 boards of the qualification, 6 international pairs and 2 German pairs reached Final A. Kevin Castner & David Gold, the winners of 2015, are currently on top of the Final A with a score of +1.111 IMPs per board. Runner-up are Erikas Vainikonis & Andrej Arlovich (+1.088 IMPs per board), followed by Waltraud Vogt & Loek Fresen as best German pair (+0.845 IMPs per board). The carry-over is calculated in the way, that the results of the qualification (81 boards) and the final scores of 28 boards will count each 50%. That way, the lead of Kevin Castner & David Gold is now only 5.5 IMPs and actually all 8 pairs of Final A still have the chance to win the 7th edition of “Gro’s Supercup”! Joerg Schinze & Joachim Cappeller had an excellent result in the second qualification round and are now in the lead of Final B (+0.365 IMPs). But the next 3 German Pairs are very close to them, so that everything is possible in this final, too. In Final C, Martin Wuest & Vitaliy Khanukov have currently the lead with an average score of -0.117 IMPs per board. But we all know that things are changing very quickly, when you are playing “IMPs across the field”! ! For me this was good reason enough to check both hands. ♠ ♥ AKB7652 ♦ AB4 ♣ AD10 9 Nord / OW ♠ KD543 ♥ D1043 ♦7 ♣ 984 ♠ 108762 ♥8 ♦ D10982 ♣ 52 N 9 ♠ AB9 ♥9 ♦ K653 ♣ KB763 N/S 7♣ = ♣ ♦ ♥ ♠ SA N 7 S 7 O– W– 4 4 – – 6 6 – – 1 1 – – 5 5 – – In board 9, North had a real good hand and South immediately knew that slam was on. Unfortunately it was very tempting for North to fix as trumps, but this slam badly needs the trump finesse of singleton opposite AKJxxxx. 8 tables went down in slams and one declarer went down twice in 6NT. But 3 pairs managed to find cold 7. One nice (and uncontested) bidding sequence was 2 (strong) - 3 (natural + strong) - 3 (natural) – 5NT (pick a slam) - 6 (should we try a grand?) - 7 (ok, maybe in ?) – pass (let’s go).
