Agradezco a la Fundación Europea de Yuste, al Gobierno de Extremadura y muy especialmente
a Su Majestad el Rey la invitación a participar en un acto tan especial, en una fecha tan
señalada y en un lugar tan simbólico. En su libro ‘Viajes por España’, el escritor Pedro Antonio
de Alarcón recomendaba vivamente visitar Yuste «a quien sea algo jinete, cuente con cuatro
días y treinta duros de sobra y tenga algún conocido en Navalmoral de la Mata que proporcione

des Karlspreises an Seine Heiligkeit Papst Franziskus zu sprechen. Der Karlspreis ist ein

ich denke, wir wissen alle noch ganz genau, was wir am 26. April 1986 gemacht haben. Dieser
Tag hat sich uns allen tief ins Gedächtnis eingegraben, denn vor 30 Jahren, am 26. April 1986
explodierte in der damaligen Sowjetrepublik Ukraine der Reaktorblock 4 des Kernkraftwerks
Tschernobyl: es kam zur totalen Kernschmelze, zum Super-GAU, eine Tragödie mit furchtbaren
Folgen: Radioaktives Material wurde in die Atmosphäre geschleudert, weite Teile Russlands,
Weißrusslands und der Ukraine verseucht; die radioaktive Wolke zog bis nach Mitteleuropa und

I feel very privileged today. I feel privileged to receive this Laurea Honoris Causa from such a
renowned academic institution. I feel very privileged to receive Rector Cataldi’s words of
commendation and the speech by Professor Moretti, for which I am grateful. And I feel very
privileged to be in the wonderful setting of Siena. Even if I am here for less than a day, simply
walking through its medieval streets, entering one of the most beautiful and harmonious squares
in the world – Piazza del Campo – is balm for the eyes and for the mind. I am here for less than
a day and feel extremely privileged; you are here every day, and I hope you are well aware of

Readout after meeting between President Schulz and Prime Minister Tsipras

President Schulz and Prime Minister Tsipras have just held a thorough exchange in Strasbourg.
Prime Minister Tsipras informed the President of the ongoing negotiations on the conclusion of
the review. The President and the Prime Minister agreed that the Institutions and the Greek
government must stick to the agreement reached last July. Greece and the Institutions are
