Itiswell-knownthatnotallnonnegativeimpulse
responseshavenonnegativestate-space
realizations.Eveninthecasewhenanonnegative
realizationexists,itsordermightbeexcessively
high.Hereweproposetorealizeanonnegative
impulseresponseusingaspectrahedral coneinvariant(SCI)state-spacesystem.Spectrahedral
conesaretheonesdefinedbyhomogeneousLMIs
andtaketheconeofnonnegativevectorsasa
specialcase.WeareabletofindminimalSCI
realizationsforalargefamilyofnonnegative
impulseresponses. Wewillalsoproposesome
openproblemsonrealizingsomeremaining
nonnegativeimpulseresponses.Throughthe
realizationproblemweseethepowerofSCI
systemsandwespeculateacomprehensivetheory
ofSCIsystems.
