Publication of dissertations and articles with special references to
the German publishing industry
Publishing occupies a central position in the academic knowledge production. It makes
research results accessible, enables exchange and thereby contributes to further production
of knowledge. For PhD candidates at German institution of higher education publishing one’s
own thesis is of special importance, since it is a necessity to be rewarded the doctoral degree.
But how to publish your thesis or an article in a well-known international journal in an efficient
way guided by highest academic standards?
The objective of the workshop is to raise awareness of formalities, offer guidelines and discuss
does and don’ts of publication. Mainly but not exclusively we will look at the German publishing
industry. The workshop offers a platform for PhD-candidates to ask general questions on
publication and on specific projects in the pipeline.
Speakers at the workshop (in accordance with the program) are Dr. Claudia Liebelt on Does
and Don’ts of publishing, Anette Volk on the BIGSAS support for the publication of the thesis
and Maike Meurer sharing insights from the German publishing industry.
The workshop will take place on Tuesday 03. May 2016 from to 02:00 pm to 05:30 pm in room
S17 at GSP. For a more detailed overview of the program see the attached workshop program.

Berücksichtigung des deutschsprachigen Verlagswesens
Das Publizieren besetzt in der akademischen Ausbildung und Wissensproduktion eine zentrale
Position, indem sie die Forschungsergebnisse zugänglich macht, Austausch ermöglicht und
zur weiteren Wissensproduktion beiträgt. Für Doktorand*Innen in Deutschaland nimmt die
Veröffentlichung der eigenen Dissertation eine besondere Stellung ein, da sie nach geltenden
Richtlinien notwendige Voraussetzung zum Erreichen des akademischen Grades eines
Doktors ist.
Aber wie publiziert man nun die eigene Dissertation oder einen Artikel in einem internationalrenommierten Journal möglichst effizient und geleitet von höchsten wissenschaftlichen
Standards?
Diesen Fragen widmet sich der Workshops. Ziele sind es, das Bewusstsein für die
Rahmenbedingungen zu schärfen, Guidelines anzubieten und offene Fragen zum Publizieren
von Artikeln und Dissertationen zu klären. Im Anschluss an kurze Vorträge der Rednerinnen
ist eine offene Fragerunde zum Publizieren im Allgemeinen oder zu konkreten Projekten der
Teilnehmer*Innen geplant. Geladen sind als Rednerinnen (Reihenfolge entsprechend des
Programms) Claudia Liebelt zu ‚Does and Dont's des Publizierens‘, Anette Volk zum BIGSASSupport für die Publikation der Dissertation und Maike Meurer zu ihren Erfahrungen im
Verlagswesen.
Der Workshop findet am statt am Dienstag den 03.05. 2016 von 14:00 bis 17:30 Uhr im Raum
S17 am GSP. Die Zahl der Teilnehmer*Innen ist auf maximal 20 begrenzt. Anmeldungen sind
bis zum 26.04.2016 per E-Mail an [email protected] möglich.
