Die Autumn School „Grenzgänger in Theorie und Praxis – Von der Permeabilität der Grenze zur Liminalität
neuer Akteure und Räume?" kreist thematisch um folgende Fragestellung: In welchem Zusammenhang stehen die
Durchlässigkeit von Grenzen und Grenzziehungen und die Emergenz neuer Akteure und Räume? Und welche Rolle
spielt dabei die Figur des Grenzgängers? Die fünf-tägige Veranstaltung widmet sich der interdisziplinären
Auseinandersetzung und Heuristik von Grenzkonzepten sowie verschiedenen thematischen Schwerpunkten, wobei
Grenzgänger sowohl in Form von Institutionen (z.B. der grenzüberschreitenden Kooperation) als auch in Form von
Subjekten (z.B. Vermittler) thematisiert werden.
25 Nachwuchswissenschaftler/innen aus den Kultur- Sozial- und Politikwissenschaften haben die Möglichkeit, in der
polnisch-deutschen Doppelstadt Frankfurt (Oder)/Słubice gemeinsam mit international und national renommierten
Grenzforschenden an der Figur des Grenzgängers zu arbeiten. Erklärtes Ziel, der Theorie und Praxis verknüpfenden
Veranstaltung, ist es, bei Vorträgen, Diskussionsrunden, Workshops und Exkursionen nicht nur Impulse und
Vernetzungsmöglichkeiten für die eigenen Forschungsprojekte zu bieten, sondern auch einen Beitrag zur
grenztheoretischen Debatte zu liefern.
Der „Call for Participation" richtet sich an Nachwuchswissenschaftler/innen (Doktoranden/innen), die zu „Grenze/n"
forschen. Folgende thematische Schwerpunkte werden im Rahmen der Autumn School entfaltet:
1. Grenztheorie
2. Cross-Border Governance
3. Grenzsicherheit
4. Kulturelle Grenzgänger
5. Vermittler
Die Bewerbung erfolgt über ein deutsch- oder englischsprachiges Abstract zum Promotionsvorhaben des
Bewerbers/der Bewerberin mit einer Länge von max. 400 Wörtern sowie einen aktuellen CV. Die eingehenden
Abstracts sollten (mind.) einem thematischen Schwerpunkt der Autumn School angehören, damit die teilnehmenden
Nachwuchswissenschaftler/innen einer Arbeitsgruppe zugeordnet werden können. Die Arbeitssprache ist Deutsch. Es
wird eine Teilnahmegebühr von 65 € pro Person erhoben.

Autumn School: Crossing borders in theory and practice - From the permeability of the border
to the liminality of new actors and spaces?

The Autumn School's theme "Crossing borders in theory and practice - From the permeability of the border to
the liminality of new actors and spaces?" revolves around the following question: How does the permeability of
borders and boundaries relate to the emergence of new actors and spaces? And what role do cross-border actors play in
this process? The five-day Autumn School is dedicated to the interdisciplinary discussion and heuristics of boundary
concepts within different thematic sections that deal with cross-border actors in terms of institutions (e.g. cross-border
cooperations), as well as subjects (e.g. mediators).
25 PhD students from cultural, social, or political sciences, as well as known national and international border
researchers, have the opportunity to work together on the figure of the cross-border actor in the context of the PolishGerman twin city Frankfurt (Oder)/Słubice. The aim of the event, which connects theory and practice of border
crossing during lectures, discussions, workshops and excursions, is not only to offer new perspectives and networking
possibilities for researchers' own projects, but in general to make a contribution to the theoretical (cross-) border
debate.
The "Call for Participation" is addressed to junior scientists (post-graduates), who do research on "Borders". The
following thematic topics will be discussed in the course of the Autumn School:
1. Boundary theory
2. Cross-Border Governance
3. Border security
4. Cultural cross-border actors
5. Intermediaries
The application should include an abstract describing the applicant's doctoral research, with a maximum length of 400
words in German or English as well as a CV. The incoming abstracts should also be related to a thematic focus, and
will subsequently be assigned to one of the five workgroups. Working language will be German. There is a registration
fee applicable from 65 € per person.
