A SPACE IS A SPACE IS A SPACE
ist eine performative und narrative Ausstellung, die den sozialen Kontext, den öffentlichen Raum und
die Performance selbst als diskursive Plattformen versteht. Die Ausstellung schafft eine
Vielstimmigkeit von Perspektiven, deren inszenierte Realitäten an mehreren Orten stattfinden: im
physischen Raum des DAZ, im städtischen Raum an den Ufern der Spree, im Internet und in der
Zeitschrift JBCQVF.
is a performative and narrative exhibition meant to probe notions of social context, public space and
performance as possible discursive platforms. It orchestrates a polyphony of perspectives relating to
staged realities and consists of several parts that take place in: the physical space of the DAZ, the urban
environment on the banks of the river Spree, the Internet and in the magazine JBCQVF.

Die Raumkonzeption, die von Jean-Pascal Flavien gestaltet wurde, besteht aus einer Ausstellungsfläche
und einer Projektion. Sie verbindet den Ausstellungsraum mit dem digitalen Raum Mind the gap.
Diese Verbindung des flexiblen und digitalen Raums mit den materiellen Gegenstücken in der
Ausstellung stellt künstlerische, kritische, grafische und architektonische Konzepte dar – so wird ein
antagonistisches Verständnis von Raum vertreten, das über die Gegensätze von öffentlich/privat,
real/virtuell und innen/außen hinausgeht. Dabei liegt die Bedeutung in der Lücke zwischen zwei Bildern,
im Zwischenraum, wie der Comic Theoretiker Scott McCloud beschreibt.
The spatial arrangement designed by Jean-Pascal Flavien, which consists of an exhibition surface and a
projection, connects the exhibition space with the digital space Mind the gap. The flexible and
inclusive digital space presents artistic, critical, graphic and architectural proposals, as well as their
physical equivalents within the exhibition, thus promoting an antagonistic concept of space extending
beyond oppositions such as public/private, real/virtual and inside/outside. Following the logic of
comic theorist Scott McCloud, the meaning lies in the gap between two images, in the space
interval itself.

Diese Spezialausgabe der Kunst- und Literaturzeitschrift JBCQVF fungiert als Widerstandsakteur,
der den Schaffungsprozess, die Archäologie der Arbeit und die Plastizität von Sprache deutlich macht.
Die eingeladenen Künstler, Architekten, Schriftsteller und Performer haben für diese Ausgabe ein
bestimmtes Projekt gestaltet oder stellen eines ihrer sich noch in Arbeit befindenden Projekte vor,
das sich mit den Themen der öffentlichen Rede und Performance beschäftigt. Die Ausgabe setzt sich
gezielt mit Konzepten partizipativer Demokratie, anthropologischem Raum und ‚Untätigkeit’, wie von
Giorgo Agamben beschrieben, auseinander. Einige Inhalte werden physisch in der Ausstellung und auf
mindthegap-ack.net präsentiert, andere von den Autoren oder dem Publikum aktiviert, was eine neue
redaktionelle Ebene hinzufügt.
This special edition of art and literature magazine JBCQVF operates as a resistance actor, laying out the
creation process, the archaeology of the work and the plasticity of language. The invited artists,
architects, writers and performers designed a specific project or offered a current work in progress that
explores issues of public speech and performance. The publication explicitly addresses concepts such as
participatory democracy, anthropological space and „idleness“as described by Giorgio Agamben. Part
of the content is extended physically in the exhibition and on mindthegap-ack.net; some will be
activated by their authors or by the audience, adding a new dimension to editing of a possible
amateur collaboration.

Im Dialog mit dem Ausstellungsraum wird der Künstler, Dichter und Aktivist Jimmie Durham eine
Geschichte, die von den Spreeufern in der Nähe des DAZ inspiriert ist, erzählen. Rosa Luxemburg
warnte einst ihre Gegner: „Eure Ordnung ist auf Sand gebaut”. Welche Relevanz hat diese Aussage
heute noch außerhalb ihrer tragischen Beziehung zur Spree? Die Architektin Joanne Pouzenc wird
eine Intervention im DAZ inszenieren, in dem sie eine architektonische und räumliche Beziehung
zwischen der Spree und dem Ausstellungsraum kreieren wird. Welche Form von Poesie, Animismus und
möglichem Zusammenbruch der Rationalität wird dabei entstehen?
In dialogue with the spatial arrangement, the artist, poet and activist Jimmie Durham will tell a
narration that takes its inspiration from the banks of the river Spree near the DAZ. Rosa Luxemburg
once told her opponents „Your ‚order‘ is built on sand.“ What is the relevance of that statement today
beyond her tragic relationship to the Spree? The architect Joanne Pouzenc will stage an intervention
at the DAZ, creating an architectural and spatial affinity between the river Spree and the space of the
project. What form of poetry, animism and collapse of rationality may emerge?
