The Neighborhood Initiative WEM GEHÖRT KREUZBERG invites you to a meeting of neighbors
and refugees on February 4th at 6pm, in the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche
Long before people start fleeing from war, hunger and desolation looking for shelter, it was
known that there is an enormous need for affordable housing in Berlin.
In one of the richest countries of the world – Germany – a country which can be blamed for the
conditions that force people from other countries to leave their homes due to war, and become
our neighbors. Neighbors who, because of the unethical politics of the Government of Berlin
have to live in mass accommodations such as the hangars at the former Airport of Tempelhof and
in sport halls. They are not even provided with even the basic hygienic and sanitary conditions.
The Government of Berlin has in the past 15 years mainly promoted a politic of private residential constructions. The same Government is now unable to come up with an adequate plan for the
needed residential housing, and even less for public housing as a response to the dire situation
poorer and homeless people and even more the refugees are facing. Instead, the Government’s
answer is the planning of 30.000 new housings until 2017 and the so called MUF (Mobile Unterkunft für Flüchtlinge). These are better than what we see today. But still they remain what they
are: mass accommodations instead of proper housing.
We do not accept mass accommodations for anybody as a perspective for the
future for inhabitants, who cannot afford to build or buy private residential
housing. We do not accept temporary houses.
What can we do together to achieve this goals?
How do we want to live in our city and neighborhood?
How can we come together and get to know each other?
We want to talk together with inputs from the tenants,
