Zur Herstellung des Automobils
und seiner Untersysteme wird
eine Vielzahl (2.000 Stück) von
Verbindungselementen benötigt.
Die meisten Schrauben sind
aus Kohlenstoffstahl gefertigt
und nur wenige Teile werden
aus nichtrostenden Stählen ausgelegt. Aus Kostengründen werden die hochlegierten
Werkstoffe möglichst nicht eingesetzt.
Vorwiegend kommen die austenitischen Werkstoffe (Gruppe
A2, A3, A4, A5) zum Einsatz.
Es werden aber auch Martensite (vergütbar) gewählt, die auch
preiswerter sind.
Die Formgebung der Produkte
ist für die Automobilindustrie
mannigfaltig, wobei die Konstrukteure häufig mehrere Funktionen mit der Sonderschraube
erfüllt haben möchten.
Für besondere Einsatzbereiche
werden von einigen Kunden
auch Titanwerkstoffe erprobt
und eingesetzt bzw. auch Aluminiumwerkstoffe, wo an die Festigkeit weniger hohe Ansprüche
gestellt werden. Ansonsten sind
beide Gruppen durch niedrige
Dichten gekennzeichnet (Leichtbau).
Um preiswerte Herstellungsverfahren anbieten zu können,
bemüht sich KOLB, auch komplizierte Geometrien auf Mehrstufenpressen fertig zu
bearbeiten (Ø 5 bis 16 mm bei
Längen von 5 bis 160 mm).
In Bereichen und Funktionen im
Auto, wo der Korrosionsschutz
besonders hoch sein soll und
wo Oberflächenschichten auf
Kohlenstoffstahlschrauben nicht
genügen, setzt der Konstrukteur
auf durch und durch nichtrostende Stähle.

Für den Hochtemperatureinsatz
kommt die besondere Gruppe
der warmfesten Werkstoffe zum
Einsatz.
