The work addresses the physicality
of the digital as symbolic chunk, emphasizing the fact that all digital data
is made of 0´s and 1´s - considering
that 0, materialized, becomes one.

This work describes a paradox:
a statue is an increase, limitation implies decrease.
Judith Sönnicken’s anti-monuments suggest the recurrence of uneasy events. One is an image of a paradox
(statue of limitation): a human-size empty pedestal — a
claim to represent the act of limiting? The other gives
physicality to the digital (back up), speaking to the anxiety of losing the digital tools that enable so many facets of our everyday life, and perhaps presaging a lost
age ended by advanced digital, or nuclear, weapons.

An oil painting was digitally transferred into
a red / green 3D version printed on two
acrylic glass layers. The green layer is motorized and moves in a slow circular motion,
making the mountains break apart visually
and, as a consequence, simulates visual perception during a migraine.

This work is a series of drawings of
3D stereoscopic illusion images.
It refers to the magic eye images,
fashionable in the 1990´s, which
gradually evoked three-dimensional depth through the arrangement
of computerized two-dimensional
patterns.
The ability of the human brain to
assemble a third dimension creates
depth once you “focus the infinite”.
VOLCANO VS. PYRAMID

A volcano, the only direct vertical connection to the
earth’s core, wrestling with a pyramid, the vertical
spiritual connection to the sky. A shape that is based
on the cooled down magma , conical, ex-liquid, facing
a shape that was meant to have sharp corners, blunted
by time. Both are hollow, zeros from above, competing
with each others gravitational verticalities; the ground
level as their net..

The idea for this work consisted in building
the opposite of a sculpture. It includes a
negative mold of a greek meat spit, a body
made up of slices of many different bodies,
slowly rotating inside of a plinth, accompanied by the sound of melting ice. A cold
white led light underlines the ghost character of the spit, referring to the blinding white
of ancient greek sculpture.
