Marco Mehn’s „Space Frames”

schreibt Oskar Wilde. Dieses Motto trifft sowohl auf CUBE als
auch auf die expressiven Bilder des Künstlers Marco Mehn zu.
Das neue CUBE-Hotel in Bieberwier entfaltet seinen Charakter nicht zuletzt durch die kongenialen Werke des Künstlers.
“Form is everything. It is the secret of life.” This quote by
Oscar Wilde perfectly describes the concept behind the
CUBE hotels as well as artist Marco Mehn’s expressive works
of art. Not least thanks to his congenial works, the new CUBE
hotel in Bieberwier unfolds its true nature.
Die Kunstwerke Marco Mehns mit ihren kubischen Formen und kräftigen Farbkombinationen harmonieren perfekt
mit der Architektur und dem Design der CUBE-Hotels. Eine
stark reduzierte Formensprache, leuchtende Farben und exklusives, puristisches Material bestimmen dabei das Bild – in
beiderlei Hinsicht. Hinzu kommt, dass der „Cube“ in vielen
Bildern des Künstlers Marco Mehn in unterschiedlichsten Variationen zu finden ist: groß oder klein, im Zentrum oder fast
verborgen Ton in Ton im Hintergrund.
With their cubic forms and powerful colour combinations, Marco Mehn’s artworks fit perfectly into the architecture and design of a CUBE hotel. Both are characterised
by a minimalist approach, brilliant colours and the use of exclusive, pure materials. Many of the artist’s pictures feature
different variations on the cube: big or small, prominently or
almost hidden in the background.
Es entsteht der Eindruck, „als wäre das Hotel um die Bilder herum gebaut“. In der Tat wurden die Bilder eigens für
diese Räume geschaffen. Die einzigartige Symbiose aus bildender Kunst und Architektur schafft eine Atmosphäre, die
einerseits kühl und stylish wirkt, andererseits aber auch flirrend vor Energie. Die Lounge ist das beste Beispiel für dieses
Zusammenspiel: Ein großer Raum, sehr geradlinig strukturiert,
oft quirlig belebt, erhält durch die Werke von Marco Mehn
Fixpunkte, die wie Energiezentren wirken. Ein besonderes
Faszinosum hängt über dem Kamin: Über 600 SvarovskiSteine sind in das exklusive Kunstobjekt eingelassen.
Die Basis der ausdrucksstarken Bilder bilden sogenannte
„Space Frames“, von Marco Mehn entwickelte und und inzwischen patentierte Kunstträger aus Edelstahl. Sie werden
nach einem speziellen Verfahren hergestellt, bei dem Formen und Flächen aus dem Material heraus gelasert werden.
Durch die Auslassungen schimmert die Wand oder spezielle
Lichtquellen, so dass beim Betrachter ein dreidimensionaler
Effekt entsteht. Die Bilder scheinen im Rahmen zu schweben.
Marco Mehn
1967 in Landstuhl/Pfalz geboren, startete Marco Mehn
vor vielen Jahren als Autodidakt, indem er Leinwand, Pinsel
und Farben kaufte und damit begann, seinen Gefühlen in
Form von Malerei Ausdruck zu verleihen. Den Durchbruch
schaffte der Künstler mit seiner großen Innovation, dem
„Space Frame“. Im Jahr 2006 ließ er diese einzigartige Technik patentieren. Heute kann Marco Mehn auf zahlreiche
Schauen sowie Ausstellungen in Birmingham, Bologna, Paris,
Wien, München oder Hamburg verweisen, wo seine Werke
bei Kunstsammlern internationale Beachtung finden.

One gets the impression as if the hotel had been built
around the paintings. In fact, the paintings were made
especially for the space. This unique symbiosis of the visual
arts and architecture creates an atmosphere which is at
once cool and stylish as well as abuzz with energy. The
lounge is the best example of this interaction. Marco
Mehn’s works of art lend this large room, which features lots
of straight lines and is often filled with lively goings-on, a
number of fixed points which act like centres of energy. Particularly fascinating is the piece above the fireplace, with
over 600 Swarovski crystals embedded in the exclusive work
of art.
The basis of the expressive pictures is formed by the socalled Space Frames, developed and patented by Marco
Mehn himself. These stainless steel “picture frames” are
made using a special procedure in which forms and surfaces are cut out of the material with a laser, allowing the wall
or special light source to shine through, thus creating a
three-dimensional effect and making it appear as if the
pictures were floating within the frame.
Marco Mehn
Marco Mehn was born in 1967 in the south-western German town of Landstuhl. He is a self-taught artist, who started
by buying a canvas, paint and a brush and just lending expression to his feelings through painting. His big breakthrough as an artist came with the innovation of his Space
Frames, which he has been working to perfect since 2003.
Since 2006, he has owned the patent on this unique technique. Today, Marco Mehn can proudly say his works have
found international recognition, with a show at the Art EXPO
in New York and exhibitions in Birmingham, Bologna, Paris,
Vienna, Munich and Hamburg.
