DI Dr. Christian Chimani, born in 1968, studied Materials Science at the University of Mining and
Metallurgy in Leoben, Austria. In 1995, he worked as a research assistant at the Technical
University Vienna. Christian Chimani completed his doctoral thesis on “Micro- and
Macromechanical Models for Hybrid, Selectively Reinforced Structures” at the Institute of Light
Weight Structures and Aerospace Engineering, Vienna University of Technology, in 1998.
From 1998 to 2010, Christian Chimani held several leading positions for Continuous Casting
Technologies at Siemens VAI Metals Technologies GmbH &Co, Linz, Austria.
Since 2005, Christian Chimani has been a lecturer for Casting Technology and Light Metals at the
Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences in Wels.
In 2010, he became Managing Director at the LKR Leichtmetallkompetenzzentrum Ranshofen
GmbH, a 100 % subsidiary of the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH. The AIT Austrian
Institute of Technology, Austria's largest non-university research institute, is a specialist in the key
infrastructure issues of the future among European research institutes.
Since 2013, Christian Chimani has been Head of the Mobility Department at the AIT Austrian
Institute of Technology. AIT Mobility investigates new technologies and processes for advanced
mobility solutions in the pillars “Transport Infrastructure”, “Low-emission Transport” and
“Multimodal Mobility Systems” that are safe, efficient, and ecologically sustainable.
DI Dr. Christian Chimani, geboren im Jahre 1968, studierte Werkstoffwissenschaften an der
Montanuniversität Leoben, Österreich. 1995 war er als Forschungsassistent an der Technischen
Universität in Wien tätig. Er promovierte 1998 am Institut für Leichtbau und Flugzeugbau der TU
Wien zum Thema: „Micro- and Macromechanical Models for Hybrid, Selectively Reinforced
Structures“.
Bei der Siemens VAI Metals Technologies GmbH &Co, Linz, Austria, arbeitete Christian Chimani
von 1998 bis 2010 in Führungspositionen in dem Bereich „Stranggusstechnologie“.
An der Fachhochschule Wels in Oberösterreich ist Christian Chimani seit 2005 Dozent für
Stranggusstechnologie und Leichtmetalle.
Im Jahr 2010 wurde er Geschäftsführer der LKR Leichtmetallkompetenzzentrum Ranshofen
GmbH, einem 100%-igen Tochterunternehmen der AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH.
Das AIT Austrian Institute of Technology ist Österreichs größte außeruniversitäre
Forschungseinrichtung und ist unter den europäischen Forschungseinrichtungen der Spezialist für
die zentralen Infrastrukturthemen der Zukunft.

Seit 2013 ist Christian Chimani am AIT Austrian Institute of Technology Head of the Mobility
Department. AIT Mobility erforscht Zukunftstechnologien und Prozesse für nachhaltige
Mobilitätslösungen der Forschungsbereiche „Verkehrsinfrastruktur“, „Schadstoffarmer Transport“
und „Multimodale Transportsysteme“, die sicher, effizient und ökologisch nachhaltig sind.
