Prof. em. Alain Badiou ist ehemaliger Lehrstuhlinhaber am philosophischen Institut des École Normale
Supérieure (ENS) und Gründer der philosophischen Fakultät der Université de Paris VIII. Momentan
ist er Professor der Philosophie und Inhaber des René-Descartes-Lehrstuhls an der European
Graduate School / EGS. Zu seinen jüngsten Veröffentlichungen zählen „Le Second Procès de
Socrate“ (2015), “What is Philosophy? A Lecture by Alain Badiou” (2015), und “Mathematics of the
Transcendental: Ontology and being-there” (2014).
Professor emeritus Alain Badiou has held the chair of Philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure
(ENS). He is the founder of the faculty of Philosophy of the Université de Paris VIII. At the moment he
is holding the René Descartes Chair at The European Graduate School / EGS. Among his latest
publications are “Le Second Procès de Socrate“ (2015), “What is Philosophy? A Lecture by Alain
Badiou” (2015), and “Mathematics of the Transcendental: Ontology and being-there” (2014).

Lorenzo Chiesa
The Desire for the Cessation of the State: Communism contra Stalinism
Professor Lorenzo Chiesa ist Leiter der Genua School of Humanities und lehrt ebenso an der
Europäischen Universität in St. Petersburg. Ferner war er Gastprofessor an der Universität von New
Mexico, am Istituto di Scienze Umane in Neapel und am philosophischen Institut in Ljubljana. Er ist
Herausgeber von diversen Werken über Lacan (z.B. “Subjectivity and Otherness”, MIT Press, 2007;
“Lacan and Philosophy”, Re.press, 2014), sowie Herausgeber und Übersetzer verschiedener Bücher
von Giorgio Agamben und Paolo Virno ins Englische und von Žižek ins Italienische. Sein jüngstes
Werk “The Not-Two: Logic and God in Lacan” (MIT) erscheint im April 2016.
Professor Lorenzo Chiesa is Director of the GSH – Genoa School of Humanities and holds visiting
positions at the European University in St. Petersburg. He was also Visiting Professor at the University
of New Mexico, the Istituto di Scienze Umane of Naples, and the Institute of Philosophy in Ljubljana.
He published books and edited collections on Lacan (“Subjectivity and Otherness”, MIT Press, 2007;
“Lacan and Philosophy”, Re.press, 2014). Chiesa has edited and translated books of Giorgio
Agamben and Paolo Virno into English and books of Žižek into Italian. His latest book “The Not-Two:
Logic and God in Lacan” (MIT) will be published in April 2016.

Felix Ensslin

Felix Ensslin lehrt als Professor für Kunstvermittlung, Ästhetik und psychoanalytische Kulturtheorie im
Studiengang Bildende Kunst an der Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart. Er
1 promovierte bei Christoph Menke mit der Arbeit „Die Entbehrung des Absoluten. Eine philosophischpsychoanalytische Untersuchung zum Subjekt der Nichtigkeit in Martin Luthers Magnificat-Auslegung“.
Ensslin ist Mitherausgeber der Serie Neue Subjektile im Verlag Turia + Kant.
Felix Ensslin is Professor of Aesthetics and Psychoanalytic Theory at the Art-Academy in Stuttgart,
Germany. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Potsdam with his book on „The Absence of the
Absolute. A Philosophical-Psychoanalytic Analysis of the Subject of Indifference in Martin Luther’s
Magnificat-Interpretation“. Ensslin is co-editor of the book series Neue Subjektile with Turia + Kant.

Oliver Feltham ist Professor für Philosophie am philosophischen Institut der American University of
Paris. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte reichen von Kritischer Theorie und zeitgenössischer
französischer Philosophie bis hin zu lacanianischer Psychoanalyse. Er promovierte an der Deakin

Oliver Feltham is Professor of Philosophy at The American University of Paris. Areas of expertise
include Critical Theory, contemporary French philosophy and Lacanian psychoanalysis. He completed

Dominik Finkelde ist Professor für Erkenntnistheorie und Philosophie der neuesten Zeit an der
Hochschule für Philosophie in München. Jüngste Publikationen sind sein Kommentar und seine
Übersetzung von Jacques Lacans „Struktur, Andersheit, Subjektkonstitution“ (2015) und das Buch
„Exzessive Subjektivität. Eine Theorie tathafter Neubegründung des Ethischen nach Kant, Hegel und
Lacan“ (dt. 2015, engl. forthcoming 2016). Gemeinsam mit Slavoj Žižek gibt er die Reihe „Lacanian
Explorations“ im August Verlag Berlin heraus.
Dominik Finkelde is Professor of epistemology and contemporary continental philosophy at the Munich
School of Philosophy. Recent publications are his comment and his translation of Jacques Lacan's
"On Structure" (2015) and the book "Excessive Subjectivity. Kant, Hegel and Lacan on the
Foundational Act of Ethics" (dt. Alber 2015, Eng. forthcoming Columbia UP 2016). With Slavoj Žižek
he is the co-editor of "Lacanian Explorations" series published by August Verlag Berlin.

Berlin und war Gastdozenzt an der Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá. Er studierte Lettres

Institut für Romanistik an der HU Berlin. 2003 erhielt er den Übersetzerpreis der DVA-Stiftung zur
Förderung der deutsch-französischen Beziehungen. Kamecke ist der Übersetzer von Badious Werk
L'être et l'événement ins Deutsche. Jüngste Publikationen: „Alain Badiou: Bedingungen und
Unendlichkeit: Ein Gespräch mit Gernot Kamecke“ (Merve 2015), „Die Prosa der spanischen
Aufklärung“ (Vervuert 2015).
PD Dr. Gernot Kamecke is currently teaching French and Spanish literature at the Humboldt University
in Berlin and was visiting lecturer at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá. He studied Lettres
Modernes and Littérature comparée at the Université Paul Valéry Montpellier III and obtained his

Clemens Pornschlegel ist Professor für neuere deutsche Literatur an der Ludwig-MaximiliansUniversität in München. Er studierte Germanistik, Philosophie und Musikwissenschaft in Freiburg i. Br.
und Paris. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte konzentrieren sich auf deutsche Literatur des 19. und 20.
Jahrhunderts, deutsch-französische Kulturbeziehungen und die Ästhetik des Politischen. Pornschlegel

Which state? Public Order meets Philosophy
Dr. Nina Power ist Dozentin der Philosophie an der University of Roehampton in London und lehrte
ferner in Middlesex, am Orpington College, am London College of Communication und am Morley
College. Sie promovierte in Middlesex über Humanismus und Anti-Humanismus in der französischen
Philosophie der Nachkriegszeit. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind moderne französische
Philosophie, moderne deutsche Philosophie, Philosophie und Politik des Subjekts, Atomismus,
Marxismus und Feminismus. Jüngste Publikationen: „Die eindimensionale Frau“ (Merve 2011), „Das
kollektive Subjekt“ (laika theorie 2015).
3 Dr. Nina Power is Senior Lecturer on Philosophy at the University of Roehampton (London) and has
also taught at Middlesex, Orpington College, London College of Communication and Morley College.
She earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy from Middlesex University on the topic of Humanism and AntiHumanism in Post-War French Philosophy. Her research focuses on Modern French Philosophy,
Modern German Philosophy, Philosophies and Politics of the Subject, Atomism, Marxism and
Feminism. She is a fellow of the RSA and a member of the British Philosophical Association. She is
the author of „One-Dimensional Woman” (Zero, 2009).

Rado Riha
Mulitiplicity and Reflective Judgement
Rado Riha ist Professor und Vorsitzender am Institut für Philosophie der Akademie der Künste und
Wissenschaften in Ljubljana. In den 1980er Jahren war er Teil der Ljubljaner Schule für
Psychoanalyse. Rado Rihas wissenschaftliche Schwerpunkte sind Epistemologie, zeitgenössische
französische Philosophie, die Psychoanalyse nach Lacan und die Philosophie Kants. Er ist Redakteur
und ehemaliger Chef-Redakteur der Fachzeitschrift Filozofski vestnik.
Rado Riha is Professor of Philosophy and currently head of the Institute of Philosophy at the Research
Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. In the 1980s, he was part of what was known
as the Ljubljana School of Psychoanalysis. Riha's research topics include epistemology, contemporary
French philosophy, the psychoanalysis of Jacques Lacan and the philosophy of Immanuel Kant. He is
member of the editorial board and formerly editor-in-chief of the journal Filozofski vestnik.

Wissenschaften in Ljubljana, Slowenien. Er promovierte bei Prof. Dr. Christoph Menke und Prof. Dr.
Manfred Schneider in Potsdam. Seine jüngsten Publikationen sind „Hegels Pöbel. Eine Untersuchung
der Grundlinien der Philosophie des Rechts“ (2011) und „For Badiou: Idealism without Idealism”
(2015). Er ist Mitherausgeber der Reihe morale provisoire beim Berliner Merve-Verlag.

Mathematics and the State of a Situation
Arno Schubbach ist Professor an der “eikones NFS Bildkritik” in Basel. Er studierte Mathematik in
Darmstadt und Berlin und wurde in Philosophie mit einer Arbeit über Subjektivität und Sozialität bei
4 Jacques Derrida promoviert. Seine Habilitation erfolgte an der Universität Basel mit einer Schrift zu
Ernst Cassirers Philosophie der Kultur und ihren wissenschaftstheoretischen Ausgangspunkten. Zu
seinen Publikationen zählen: „Denken mit dem Bild. Philosophische Einsätze des Bildbegriffs von
Platon bis Hegel“ (Wilhelm Fink Verlag 2010) und „Die Genese des Symbolischen. Zu den Anfängen
von Ernst Cassirers Kulturphilosophie“ (Meiner 2016).
Arno Schubbach is professor at “eikones NFS Bildkritik” Graduate College in Basel, Switzerland. He

Yannis Stavrakakis
State and Event in the Greek crisis
Yannis Stavrakakis ist Professor der Philosophie an der Hochschule für Politik der Aristoteles
Universität in Thessaloniki, Griechenland. Außerdem lehrte er an den Universitäten in Nottingham und
Essex. An letzterer promovierte er über neue Richtungen in Ideologietheorie und „grüner Ideologie“
bei Professor Ernesto Laclau. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind zeitgenössische politische Theorie
(insbesondere aus psychoanalytischer und poststrukturalistischer Perspektive), sowie Ideologie- und
Diskursanalyse in späten modernen Gesellschaften. Zu seinen Publikationen gehören: “Lacan and the
Political” (Routledge 1999) und „The Lacanian Left: Psychoanalysis, Theory, Politics” (State University
of New York Press 2007).
Yannis Stavrakakis is Professor of Philosophy at the School of Political Sciences at Aristotle University
in Thessaloniki, Greece. He has also lectured at the Universities of Essex and Nottingham and earned
his Ph.D. at the University of Essex on New Directions in the Theory of Ideology and the Case of
Green Ideology, under the supervision of Professor Ernesto Laclau. His research primarily focuses on
contemporary political theory (with emphasis on psychoanalytic and poststructuralist approaches) and
on the analysis of ideology and discourse in late modern societies. Publications include “Lacan and
the Political” (Routledge 1999) and „The Lacanian Left: Psychoanalysis, Theory, Politics” (State
University of New York Press 2007).

Dr. Samo Tomšič ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im interdisziplinären Cluster “Bild Wissen
Gestaltung” an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Er war ferner wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am
Institut für Philosophie der Akademie der Künste und Wissenschaften in Ljubljana, Slowenien und an
der Jan van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht. Tomšič promovierte an der Universität von Ljubljana mit der
Arbeit “Was ist Antiphilosophie?”. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Strukturalismus,
Psychoanalyse, Epistemologie und Kritische Theorie. Jüngste Publikationen: „The Capitalist

Kommunismus, politische Subjektivität, Revolte, Revolution, sozialen Wandel, kognitiven
Kapitalismus, immaterielle Arbeit, Biopolitik, ökonomische Soziologie, zeitgenössisches franz. und.
ital. Denken, Politik der Kunst und Wirtschaftsästhetik. Toscano ist Übersetzer zahlreicher Bücher
Badious ins Englische. Jüngste Publikationen: „Cartographies of the Absolute“ (Zero Books 2015) und

Dr. Alberto Toscano is reader in Critical Theory at the Department of Sociology and Co-director at the
Centre for Philosophy and Critical Thought at Goldsmiths, University of London. He received his Ph.D.
in Philosophy from the University of Warwick. His research focuses on anarchism, communism,
political subjectivity, revolt, revolution, social change, cognitive capitalism, immaterial labour,
biopolitics, economic sociology, contemporary French and Italian thought, the politics of art and the
aesthetics of the economy. Toscano is the translator of several books by Alain Badiou into English.
