Mallorca – die beliebteste Ferieninsel im Mittelmeer – hat viel zu bieten:
feinsandige Strände, atemberaubende Steilküsten, pittoreske Dörfer,
beeindruckende Berglandschaften und im Landesinneren tatsächlich noch
unberührte Landschaften.
Schon in den frühen Jahren des Tourismus widmete sich Josep Planas,
ein Katalane, den der Krieg auf die Insel verschlagen hatte, seiner Passion,
Mallorca fotograisch zu dokumentieren. Seine wunderbaren Fotos ingen
nicht nur die Schönheit der Natur und der Architektur ein, sondern auch
den vorherrschenden Zeitgeist. Als Postkarten-Fotograf sorgte er für
reichlich Insel-Werbung, was für den einsetzenden Tourismus sicherlich
förderlich war. Seit Planas sich zur Ruhe gesetzt hat, schlummern all seine
wunderschönen Aufnahmen in einem verlassenen Archiv in Palma. Doch
nun hat Autor Holger Lüttgen sich drangesetzt und die schönsten Fotograien für einen opulenten Bildband ausgewählt und mit kenntnisreichen
Texten versehen.
Mallorca clásica zeigt historische Aufnahmen der Insel, wie man sie sonst
nirgends indet, faszinierende Aufnahmen von einem Mallorca, wie es
auch Kenner noch nicht gesehen haben. Die Fotograien von Josep Planas
versetzen den Leser in eine andere Welt, ursprünglich und authentisch,
ein zeitgeschichtliches Kleinod!

The island in historical photographs
The beautiful and very popular Mediterranean island of Mallorca has plenty
to ofer: beaches illed with the inest sand, breathtaking clifs, picturesque
villages, fascinating mountain scenery and really still undiscovered
landscapes within the heartland.
Catalan-born Josep Planas moved to the island during the war. His
dedication to portrait the island right from the early years of tourism led
to a myriad of photographs. His marvellous pictures not only captured
the beauty of nature and architecture of his new home but also relected
the prevalent Zeitgeist. His wealth of pictures formed the basis for all the
postcards that mainly tourists started to send around the world. With
his tireless efort he deinitely helped promoting the island as a tourist
destination within the advent of mass tourism.
Since his retirement, all the beautiful photography of Josep Planas has been
hidden inside an abandoned archive in Palma de Mallorca.
Holger Lüttgen, author of this opulent illustrated book, was able to visit this
archive and select the most beautiful and fascinating pictures of his work.
His well-written texts help to guide the reader through the pictures and
their background.
Mallorca clásica presents historic photography of the island as never
shown before, fascinating pictures of a place even connoisseurs have not
experienced this way. Josep Plana’s photography draws the reader into
a completely diferent world, authentic and genuine, lost forever but
captured within this contemporary treasure trove!
