In the terminal
So viele Menschen! Mattis und Lina
stehen mit Mama und Papa im Terminal, der großen Abflughalle des Flughafens. In zwei Stunden fliegen sie
mit dem Flugzeug in den Urlaub in
die Türkei. Als Erstes gehen sie zum
Check-in-Schalter.
So many people! Mattis and Lina are
waiting with Mommy and Daddy to
check in for their vacation flight.
Am Check-in-Schalter bekommen die Passagiere
ihre Bordkarte. Hier geben sie auch ihr Gepäck auf.
At the check-in counter the passengers get their
boarding passes and check in their luggage.

Die Bundespolizei läuft gerade Streife.
Sie sorgt für die Sicherheit der Fluggäste.
Police officers patrol the terminal, making
sure everyone is safe.
Auf dem Weg zum Gate On the way to the gate
An der Sicherheitskontrolle vor dem
Gate steht eine lange Schlange. Die Fluggäste und das Handgepäck werden
gründlich überprüft. Niemand soll verbotene Gegenstände mit an Bord nehmen.
Mit einem Röntgengerät sehen die Mitarbeiter ins Innere
der Taschen.

There's a long line at the security
checkpoint. The passengers and their
hand luggage are checked, so that no
one brings anything dangerous onto
the plane.
Am Gate steht bereits das Flugzeug. Es wird sorgfältig vorbereitet. Beladen, Betanken und Überprüfen, alles geschieht gleichzeitig.

It's busy here! Trucks and buses run around
among the planes out on the runway.

Air Traffic Controller
Im Tower sitzen die Lotsen. Ohne ihre
Anweisung darf auf dem Flughafen
kein Flugzeug abheben oder landen.
Sie ordnen den Verkehr auf dem Vorfeld, leiten Flugzeuge auf ihre Startposition oder weisen ankommenden
Maschinen eine Parkposition zu.
The air traffic controllers are in
the tower. No planes can take off
or land without their permission.
They control the traffic on the runway, guide planes to their starting
positions, and tell arriving planes
where to park.

Das Flugzeug hat seine Reisehöhe erreicht: 10 000 Meter über dem Boden.

Ein Flugzeug hebt erst dann ab, wenn die Luft die Flügel
ganz schnell umströmt und dadurch Auftrieb erzeugt
wird. Für die dazu nötige hohe Geschwindigkeit sorgen

Im Cockpit
Als das Flugzeug gelandet ist,
dürfen Mattis und Lina kurz
ins Cockpit schauen. Mattis
staunt: So viele Hebel und
Schalter! Die Piloten erzählen,
dass sie immer zu zweit,
manchmal auch zu dritt, ein
Flugzeug fliegen. Und Mattis
weiß: Der Kapitän trägt vier
Streifen auf der Uniform, der
Kopilot drei Streifen.

Vom Café haben Mattis und Lina einen
guten Blick in die Ankunftshalle des
Flughafens. Hier ist richtig viel los –
wie beim Abflug! Vieles sieht aus wie
auf dem Flughafen zu Hause. Ein paar
englische Wörter erkennt Mattis auch
wieder.
From the coffee shop, Mattis and
Lina have a good view of the arrival
hall. It's very busy, just like when they
took off! A lot of things look like the
airport at home. Mattis even recognizes a few English words.

The passengers wait for
their luggage at the baggage claim. Whose bag

Der Traum vom Fliegen
Dreaming offlying
Mit dem Bus sind Mattis und seine Familie vom Flughafen ins Hotel gefahren.
Jetzt machen sie sich einen schönen
Nachmittag am Strand. Mit seinem Flugzeug aus Sand will Mattis bis in den
Weltraum fliegen. Und wie es scheint,
träumt nicht nur er vom Fliegen.
A bus takes Mattis and his family to
their hotel. Now they're having a nice
afternoon at the beach. Mattis pretends to fly into space on his plane
made of sand. But it looks like he's
not the only one dreaming
of flying!
