Abstract
The usage of CFRP plates in satellites has been increasing and several attempts have been reported concerning the size
distribution of fragments from projectile and materials ejected from target when projectiles struck CFRP plates. However, the
size distributions of fragments and ejecta have not yet been fully elucidated. We examined the effects of CFRP target thickness
on the size distributions of ejecta. Quasi-isotropic CFRP plates [+45º/0º/-45º/90º]S (8 ply) was used as CFRP targets. Spherical
projectiles made of aluminum alloy 2017-T4 with diameter of 1.6 mm to 7 mm were used. Impact experiments were carried out
using a two-stage, light-gas gun at Nagoya Institute of Technology. The ejecta collected from front side and rear side of the
target were examined.
