The Department of Medicine V (Hematology, Oncology & Rheumatology), Ruprecht-Karls-University, Heidelberg, Germany, will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the first successful transplantation using hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) derived from peripheral blood instead of the bone marrow, performed 1985 and published in February 1986. Ever since then, stem cell research and stem cell transplantation have remained a major component of the Department. In addition, the Baden-Württemberg Foundation has organized a satellite symposium on the March 31 in the Neue Aula to earmark twelve years of promotion and support for adult stem cell research in the State of Baden-Württemberg. This is followed by the main scientific symposium from April 1 to April 2, 2016, at the Department of Medicine, Medical Center of the University.
