7th VDV Academy Conference
Electric Buses - Market of the Future!
ElekBu 2016
More and more transport companies in Germany and abroad have begun to practically test buses with
alternative drive technology for public transport. Especially battery buses are being tested because they are
energy-efficient, quiet and locally zero-emission vehicles and because the prices for batteries are expected
to decrease significantly within the next few years thanks to the development within the other modes of
transport.
To be able to operate these buses efficiently, a battery bus
system has to be realised that is mainly characterised by the
charging strategy, which in turn mainly depends on the local
electrical infrastructure and the operating concepts of the
transport company. The charging strategy can be realised by
way of several charging methods.
Battery bus systems with different charging strategies and
different charging methods have been operated for quite some time now. The experience gained and the results of this
operation are discussed intensively with the operators of the
systems and with representatives of European major research
projects in this field. Thereafter, requirements for the battery
bus systems are put into words and procurement strategies
are put in concrete terms.
The different system designs clearly indicate that it is important to standardise the systems in the very near future.
The activities already initiated in this respect are being debated.
On day 2 current products for battery bus systems, findings
from the practical operation and development activities are
presented in 13 contributions from industrial companies. The
discussion between operators and manufacturers will contribute to consequently, committedly and successfully continuing the courses adopted for practicable and payable battery
bus systems.
Bus exhibition ElekBu
The exhibition ElekBu takes place in parallel to the conference.
Here manufacturers of battery and plug-in buses, their subsuppliers as well as companies advising transport companies
on the procurement of such buses present their products and
services. The exhibition space is bigger than last year and
more battery buses are being exhibited. Nevertheless, the
concept of close interrelations between conference and exhibition has not been changed as the exhibitors at ElekBu 2015
and the participants of the 6th VDV Academy Conference appreciated it.
