Dr. Reto Hofmann, lecturer in the Faculty of Arts at Monash
University, Australia, is a historian of modern Japan with
wider research and teaching interests in modern Asia,
Europe, and international history. His ﬁrst book, The Fascist
Eﬀect : Japan and Italy , 1915-1952 (Cornell UP, 2015),
examines the making of fascist ideology in Japan from a
transnational perspective. He received his Ph.D from
Columbia University (2010).
