Our instructors have been busy with their students to improve their skiing and snowboarding techniques and having fun. Following the conclusion of classes for the year, we have our Rokka Race Day coming up on Sunday, February 28. This annual event is not to be missed! We will have a fun course set up by our race director Steve Takahashi with help from other instructors. Skiers and boarders of all abilities can participate. Bring your family to help cheer the racers down the course. Afterwards, we will have our famous lunch potluck where racers can share their stories from the big race. Please also mark our calendar for our end of the season Rokka Potluck and Awards night on Saturday, April 2. We will have more information on this family event in our next newsletter. Lastly, I want to thank Kelley Nomaguchi for all her contributions as our Rokka Treasurer for the past six years. We’ll miss you Kelley and appreciate all your work keeping on top of our finances. Kim Muramoto, long time club member and instructor, will be taking over the role going forward. See you on the slopes! Cary Page 3 Rokka Newsletter 2 0 1 6 , I s s ue 2 Rokka Lodge News: We've seen a great spike in usage this winter thanks to the great snowpack and conditions. Thank you all for keeping the lodge stocked and cleaned! Starting March 2nd through March 6th, The Squaw Valley Freeride Team is again booking out the lodge for the event. They have 20 or so athletes and coaches. We have agreed to let them use all rooms until Friday Night, at which time, Room A will be available for regular and Priority members. This will be a great infusion of income to support our ongoing operations. Then the following week, ROKKA Ski Academy will be reserving the whole lodge March 11th, 12th, and 13th, so no regular reservations will be accepted. Housekeeping notes for newcomers: Fires - Please use the fire starter bricks (small chunks) located on the storage shelf and keep the fires to a reasonable height. Use of paper or cardboard to light the fire poses a chimney fire risk. There is also some kindling split so when it runs low, please split more! Reminder: Please bring your own towel, shampoo and soap for showering, Thanks!
