【Course Objectives and Focus : 授業の到達目標及びテーマ】
This course is designed for students at JLPT N5 level with one semester or equivalent of Japanese language
study. In this course, vocabulary and grammar focus on speaking and writing in everyday life and daily
expressions. There are also many activities outside the classrooms. (i.e. asking for directions to go to
designated locations, interacting with Japanese elementary school children and teaching their home
countries’ games in Japanese, etc.)
【Course Summary : 授業の概要】
・Learn new words and expressions in Japanese.
・Use Japanese which are studied in class on various occasions.
・Learn more about Japan by experiencing Japanese culture.
■Activities : Learn Japanese through various activities by 3 steps as follows.
Step 1: Preparation/ Learn words and expressions needed for activity.
Step 2: Activity/ Use what you learn in class on real occasions. (i.e. Home Visit, Fukuoka City Tour, etc)
Step 3: Summery and Review
■TATEWARI Activity: Work with students from other Japanese courses.
・Cooking Contest (Activity is subject to change due to course plan.)
・Project Work: compile all of your works/activities into a newspaper by your own words in Japanese.
■Portfolio:
Compile your findings in a paper, resume, and presentation at the end of the course.
【 Preparatory Work : 準備学習等についての具体的な指示】
Be prepared for daily word quizzes to increase your vocabulary. Pre-research for your project work will be
occasionally requested. You will be advised in class when preparatory work is needed.

【Grading Criteria: 成績評価の方法】
Vocabulary and Expression Quiz 20%, Homework 20%, Portfolio 10%, Participation and activities
50% [Total of 100%]
Each absence will reduce by 2 points the full score assigned for this entire course.
【Note: 履修上の注意】
Students are required to have studied Japanese language for a minimum of one semester and should be able
to read the Japanese KANA and have knowledge of Te-Form.
Make sure to complete your homework which will be given every day. Also, you are advised to bring items
that will help you to introduce your country such as traditional clothes / costumes, musical instruments,
photos, etc.
