Joint Press Statement on the occasion of the 2nd Iraq - Japan Water Conference The 2nd Iraq - Japan Water Conference was successfully held in Baghdad, on February 3rd, 2014. Members from Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East (JCCME), and private companies from the Japanese side; and members from Ministry of Municipality and Public Works (MMPW), Iraqi National Investment Commission (NIC), relevant organizations and private companies from the Iraqi side participated in this Conference. 1. Both sides appreciated the progress of cooperation between the two countries since the 1st Iraq-Japan Water Conference and expressed satisfaction with successful outcomes such as signing on the contract for package 4 of Basra Water Supply Improvement Project between MMPW and a Japanese company and cooperation in training on human resources development. 2. The Iraqi side explained the current situation regarding water issues and prospects for future water projects in Iraq. The participants from the Japanese government introduced the policies of water supply and waste water management being carried out by the Government of Japan, as well as by Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Participants from Japanese private companies made presentations on their own advanced technologies which would contribute to development of Iraq. 3. The Iraqi side appreciated Japan’s presentations on its technology and know-how, expressing willingness to utilize them in their future projects, while the Japanese side expressed its strong intention to contribute to the development of Iraqi society by Japan’s technology and know-how. 4. Both sides reconfirmed to expand mutual cooperation in water and sewerage area. The Japanese side introduced the progress of the following cooperation in the field of human resources development and the Iraqi side expressed its appreciation for Japan’s contribution. METI expressed its intention to offer the human resources training for water supply sector in Iraq and Japanese private companies will receive the trainee from Iraq in 2014. JICA conducted the human resources training for water supply and sewerage system, in collaboration with Yokohama city, for Iraqi officials in June, 2013. During the training course, the Iraqi side introduced the plan of water related projects to Yokohama city and Japanese private companies. 5. Both sides confirmed their willingness to further develop cooperation in the water sector between the two countries based upon the result of the 2nd conference and agreed to hold meetings with a view to further promoting exchanges between the two countries. Amir Khalil Ismail Shuzo Takada Director-General of Planning and Follow-up Deputy Director-General, Ministry of Municipality and Public Works Manufacturing Industries Bureau Republic of Iraq Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Government of Japan February 3rd 2014 Baghdad, Republic of Iraq (仮訳) 第２回日・イラク合同水セミナーにおける共同プレスステートメント ２０１４年２月３日にバグダットにおいて、第２回日イラク合同水セミナー が成功裡に開催された。本セミナーには、日本側からは、経済産業省、外務省、 国際協力機構（JICA）、日本貿易振興機構（JETRO）、中東協力センター （JCCME）、及び日本の民間企業が、イラク側からは、地方公共事業省、イラ ク国家投資委員会、関係機関及び民間企業が出席した。 １．双方は、第１回日・イラク水セミナー以降、両国間の協力関係が進展した ことを評価し、セミナーの成果としてイラク地方自治・公共事業省と日本企業 の間でバスラ上水道整備事業パッケージ４の契約が調印されたことや人材育成 の分野で協力が進展したことを歓迎した。 ２．イラク側からイラクにおける水分野の現状及び今後のプロジェクトの見通 しに関する説明を行った。日本政府からは、日本政府及び東京都の水政策を紹 介した。日本の民間企業からは、イラクの発展に貢献できる各企業の優れた技 術に関するプレゼンテーションを行った。 ３．イラク側は、日本の技術やノウハウに関するプレゼンテーションを歓迎す るとともに、日本の技術をイラクでの今後のプロジェクトに活用していきたい との意向を表明し、日本側はイラク社会への貢献したいとの強い意向を表明し た。 ４．双方は、上下水道分野で相互の協力を進めることを再確認した。日本は、 人材育成分野での協力に関する進捗を紹介し、イラク側は日本の貢献を歓迎し た。 －経産省はイラクの研修生受け入れ事業を２０１４年に実施予定。研修事業で は、日本企業がイラクの研修生を受け入れ予定。 －JICA は、２０１３年６月、横浜市と協力し、上下水分野でイラクの研修生受 け入れ事業を実施。同機会にイラク側からは、横浜市及び日本企業に対して、 イラクにおける水関連のプロジェクトを紹介。 ５．双方は、第 2 回日・イラク水セミナーを通じて、水分野における二国間の 協力を更に進めていく意思を確認し、二国間交流を更に促進する観点から、今 後も会合の機会を設けていくことで一致した。 アミール・カハリ・イスマイル イラク地方公共事業省 計画局長 ２０１４年２月３日イラク バグダット 高田 修三 日本国経済産業省 製造産業局審議官
