Aim The aim of the Awards is to recognise significant contribution in the field of Japanese-British relations by individuals and organisations who have otherwise not been acknowledged. Criteria The Board of the Society has appointed an Awards Committee to invite nominations and to select recipients. The criteria for nomination and selection are as follows: That there has been no prior significant recognition (previous honour, award or prize) for the relevant activity, although exceptions may be made on the recommendation of the Awards Committee. That the activity for which the award is being made has been conducted in Japan or related directly to a Japan-based organisation. That the recipients are currently resident in Japan. That nominees should not normally be a member of the Board of the Society. That Awards are not given posthumously. That Awards are usually granted each year to two recipients, with one being Japanese and the other British, though this may depend on the circumstances in a particular year. That the nominees need not be members of the Society. The nominees who have previously been proposed for the award will not be automatically considered unless their name is proposed again this year. However, anyone proposing a candidate they proposed in an earlier year need not resend all the information because the office has kept that – they need only send new information they would like the committee to consider. Prize Silverware with inscription: in addition, the cost of the Annual Dinner (Award recipients only) will be covered by the Society and a subsidy will be provided towards the cost of travel to and from Tokyo to recipients (only) residing over 75km away from Tokyo Station and towards the costs of an overnight stay.
