「カケハシ・プロジェクト」日本人高校生によるナッシュビル訪問報告

Visit by Japanese high school students to Nashville, TN on “KAKEHASHI Project-The
Bridge for Tomorrow-”(November 11-15, 2014)
１１月１１～１５日、日本と北米地域との青少年交流事業「カケハシ・プロジェクト」に参加した日本
の高校生と引率教員１１５名がナッシュビルを訪れ、当地の学校や日系企業を訪問するなど交流
活動に参加しました。このプロジェクトは、日米の相互理解の深化、将来の日米交流の担い手層
のネットワーク形成並びに青少年層におけるグローバル人材の育成を推進することを目的に、国
際交流基金とローラシアン協会により実施されています。
訪問団は、高崎経済大学附属高等学校（群馬）、鳥取敬愛高等学校、熊本県立宇土高等学校、
宮崎県立宮崎西高等学校、富山県立伏木高等学校の高校生と引率教員で、１０日間ほどのア
メリカ滞在の最初の訪問地としてナッシュビルを訪問しました。
１２日に開催されたオリエンテーションには全参加者が出席し、これから実施するプレゼン
テーションの準備に取り組みました。冒頭、井龍一浩・首席領事が挨拶し、健康に気を付け
てアメリカの生活習慣や文化などを勉強するようにと激励しました。
１４日に W. O. Smith Nashville Community Music School にて開催されたレセプションでは、
カール・ディーン・ナッシュビル市長から、日本と深い友好関係にあるナッシュビルへの歓
迎の気持ちが表明され、続いて加藤元彦・総領事より、今回のアメリカ訪問で学んだことを
活かして将来の日米関係を担う人材に育つよう期待する旨の挨拶を行いました。
続いて各校の代表者より各学校や出身地についての紹介があり、鳥取敬愛高校の代表者より
地元出身の著名な漫画家などについてのプレゼンテーションがありました。

A group of 115 high school students and teachers visited Nashville from November 11-15.
They were part of the “KAKEHASHI Project-the Bridge for Tomorrow,” a youth exchange
project between Japan and the US, and visited local schools and Japanese companies in
Nashville and surrounding areas. The Project aims at promoting deeper mutual
understanding among the people of Japan and the U.S., enabling future leaders of
Japan-US exchanges to form networks, and helping young people develop wider
perspectives to encourage active roles at the global level in the future. It is organized by the
Japan Foundation and co-organized by the Laurasian Institution. The students are from five
high schools in Japan and started their ten-day visit to the U.S. in Nashville. They continued
their stay with host families in several cities acorss America before completing their trip in
Boston, Massachusetts.
An orientation was held on November 12, where the students prepared presentations which
they were going to make during their stay in the U.S. Kazuhiro Iryu, Deputy Consul-General
of Japan, encouraged the students to stay healthy and make the most of experiencing
American lifestyles and culture.
A reception was held on November 15 at the W.O. Smith Nashville Community Music School.
Mayor Karl Dean of Nashville welcomed the delegation and introduced the strong friendship
between Japan and the City. Consul-General Motohiko Kato expressed his hope that the
students learned a lot of valuble lessons from this trip and become a bridge between Japan
and the U.S. in future.
Representatives of each high school introduced their schools and hometowns to guests, and
representatives of Tottori Keiai High School made a presentation about a renowned manga
artist from Tottori.
