Grades will be assigned according to pages 15-16 of the 基盤教育案内. You need 60 points to pass the course and you must attend more than 67% of classes. Grading is as follows: Dictations: 35 points There will be a total of five dictations (Units 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10). Each dictation is worth 7 points. The dictations will be at the beginning of the lesson. If you arrive late you get zero points. Group Project: 36 points The group project will begin in Unit 4 and last 8 weeks. Details of how you can get 36 points will be explained later. The project presentation takes place on the last class of term. If you do not attend the project presentation class, you receive zero points. TOEIC Test: 20 points The TOEIC Test takes place at the end of term. Details of how your score in this examination will be turned into a 0-20 point range will be given later. Participation: 10 points Every week you will have the chance to have a conversation with me during class. If you have a conversation twice during the course, you can earn the maximum 10 points. Only one conversation per class is allowed. To get participation points you must have my stamp in the table below. Not only is the difference between R and L hard for Japanese speakers to make, it is also hard for you to hear. Very easy! However, in English, it’s not so easy. There are 4 rules to remember: Rule 1 If it is a sport that uses a ball or something similar, for example a shuttlecock or a puck, then use the verb play: He plays golf Can you play volleyball? There still remain, however, three more English pronunciations with which Japanese students tend to have problems. 1.
