日本政府は「観光立国」をめざし、東京オリンピック・パラリンピックが開催される2020年までに年間2,000万人の外国人旅行者の受け
入れ目標を設定しているが、観光がもたらす日本への経済面・外交面の恩恵は計り知れない。そこで当シンポジウムでは、世界観光都市
のひとつである京都から、日々の「おもてなし」を通して日本の観光立国戦略を論じ、米国というグローバルな視点を交えながら日本の
観光立国としての課題と展望を明確にし、観光政策提言を東京、そしてワシントンへ届ける。

In promoting Japan as a "tourism-oriented nation", the Japanese government has set the goal of increasing the number of annual foreign visitors
to 20 million by the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. In this city of Kyoto, one of the most popular destinations in the world, this
Symposium aims to discuss on how to develop Japan’s tourism industry, through the spirit of omotenashi, the Japanese tradition of hospitality, by
incorporating global perspectives in order to elucidate the tasks at hand, to envision and propose future prospects for Japan’s tourism strategies.
