February 28 , 2015 SEMINAR Objectives The seminar aims to provide a multidisciplinary approach to the analysis of food consumption and consumer behavior in order to explore the following questions: 1. Is it possible and/or useful to integrate into economic theory new approaches from other social sciences in order to analyze consumer behavior in an innovative way? 2. Can we better understand and predict consumer behavior by a transdisciplinary approach to studying consumers? 25 – 27 M arch, 2015 Dissemination A selection of the best seminar papers will be considered, after an external double blind review process, for publication in a Special Issue of the British Food Journal, the Journal of Economic Psychology; in a Special Section of the International Journal of Food and Agribusiness Marketing and Psicologia della Salute. A Special Issue or Section is also scheduled on Appetite. 3. Is the postmodern critique already part of mainstream marketing theory and therefore we need a novel post-‐
modern approach? 4. What is the role of marketing in driving and determining changes in food consumption? Is the consumer a dupe or an agent of change? Is consumer sovereignty still a useful concept or it has being undermined by the economic concentration of retail industry in the food sector? 5. How do the new digital media influence the needs of individuals? Do they provide an opportunity and a challenge for the food business? 6. What new trends of consumption are observed in the food economy? How are they impacting the food economy? 7. Which system of governance of the food system is better equipped to respond to the new demands of critical consumption? Registration Fee Non-‐EAAE/AAEA members must pay their EAAE or AAEA membership before the Seminar, using the web subscription page of the EAAE website (www.eaae.org) or the AAEA website (www.aaea.org/membership).
