The exchange applicant must have an ability to speak and understand English, Swedish or Finnish but so far the Academy has not demanded any TOEFL, IELTS or other English tests. In addition, there will be each year a selection of courses, seminars and lectures in English especially targeted for international students. Even when teaching in English is not available, it is often possible to complete courses through independent study. There is no automatic acceptance of nominated students. Applications are assessed with a view to selecting students who best fit the programme of study. As individuai studio space is provided to students and this is sometimes in limited supply, students' applications may also be declined for this reason.
